WelshZeCorgi Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 I use a dining chair made of wood. Would like to replace it with something for flight simming. Any suggestions?
Thick8 Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 An automobile or truck seat works well. I had a seat from a minivan for a while and now have a seat from a HD truck. Both seats had movable headrests and armrests; and could move forwards and backward. The truck seat also can rotate, has multiple position armrest, adjustable 3 zone lumbar as well as adjustable kidney and seat bottom bolsters. It’s the bomb. The armrests are great because you can attach controllers and such to them and move them out of the way when not in use. How much do you want to spend? Where do you want to put it? I have a Volair Sim cockpit and love it. RedX Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 (edited) Nowadays I got a survaillance chair by Be-Ge. As they originally are a manufacturer of utility vehicle seats, their designs are quite suitable for flight simming. I'm happy enough to recommend something along that line of thinking (whatever company, but vehicle style seat is the best; hell, why not to buy a second-hand truck seat? I would if a clean one was available). Oh, I removed the wheels btw. Just soft pads which the chair slides on. For flight sims it would be good the get rid of the rotation, too. Maybe some day I'll construct aluminium bar support base for the chair and slide rails so that it is easy to get up / sit down in front of the display+keyboard. Thick8 Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 I would if a clean one was available. One of the great things with vehicle seats is that the covers are made to be removable and replaceable. Usually just plastic seam joints and hog rings. Cut the hog rings and replace them with small cable ties. The cloth seats handle the washer and dryer just fine. HunchyTheHuncher Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 I would really like a seat with a cut out for a centre mounted stick. Besides buying an actual second hand pilot seat for a ridiculously expensive price there aren't any options out there. There is a DIY option, but I don't feel confident enough to take a hacksaw to my racing seat. I did it in a less invasive way than Hunchy's link. Pics in the post: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1121508&postcount=18 Current chair is a bit too pricey to repeat that... DeltaMike Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 Up till recently I had an all-ikea pit. Was seriously looking at the ponang chair. But decided to drop some bucks an an actual gaming chair. I got the clutch, they make one for the bigger-butted man. Sad reality is, dcs will have you spending a lot of time in the seat. I prioritized that over a couple other upgrades and felt it was well, well worth it. Waxer Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 I don't know if you are still looking, but here are some interesting options: 1) Money no object: Bugeye technology (Boeing spin off) https://www.bugeyetech.com/cockpits 2) Just a chair solutions: Sparco make some interesting gaming chairs now. Maybe a bit restrictive to flight sim pilots, but these are not replica of car buckets but allow more movement https://www.sparco-official.com/en/gaming/chairs.html And you could get some throttle mounts from Monstertech: https://www.monstertech.de/produkt/joystick-hotas-sitzhalterung/ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Bones1775 Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 I went to a local salvage yard and got the passenger seat out of a Pontiac Sunfire for $35
