Nealius Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Odyssey+ user here. Prior to the Win10 and SteamVR updates over this past weekend I was getting decent performance, and now my performance is absolute garbage for seemingly no reason. Win10 updated to build 17763.503, and SteamVR updated to 1.4.15, giving that nice mountain view with the aurora in the "black room." Problem is I am constantly getting kicked back to that "black room" despite framerates not dropping below 30 (at worse I've seen 27). Even just navigating the UI and opening the mission editor will kick me to the "black room" for a couple of seconds. Flying over empty desert or ocean, with a steady 45fps, it will send me to the "black room" for a second for no bloody reason whatsoever. Then 45-minutes into a flight my frames will suddenly go to hell in situations where they haven't in the past. Before these two updates I flew a 145-minute marathon in the Warthog and had one brief trip to the "black room" during flight, and that was it. Since then the frequency has gotten worse. I have also been having more problems with the sensor loosing track of where I'm looking, only in DCS. In the Steam VR house and WMR Cliff/City house the tracking works perfectly fine. It's getting frustrating.

Incidentally, I had terrible black room issues when I initially bought the Oddessy. Figured it was my RAM as I only had 16gb. Put 32 in and made no difference. I'm running a 1080ti and my CPU is OCd to 5.0ghz. So no issues there. Years ago, a friend gave me a memory cleaner app called Game Boost. Or Game booster. I installed it as a last desperate act before I boxed the Oddessy back up and sold on eBay and it worked. Seems like, in my case, it really didn't matter how much ram I tossed at it, if the lower numbers weren't free enough, I was tossed into the black room every time something blew up. Afterwards, it was a rare occurrence. Until recently. Markeebo Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Harlikwin Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 I dunno what it was, but at some point yesterday started up DCS in the morning and it worked fine. Shut it down. Started up again and got online and I was pulling like teens and 20's, then went offline same thing. Rebooted, started up DCS and everything was fine. New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1) Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).
fitness88 Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Runs great very smooth single player, multi-player getting booted/black screen etc.
crazyave Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 I have an Odyssey+ as well... After updating Windows 10, DCS, SteamVR and to latest Nvidia drivers (2080tI) all at once I noticed my visuals went to crap and frame rates too. To get the visuals back I had to set SteamVR to 150% SS, up from 100%. To get rid of the low frame rates, if I stare at the sky when I first start a session, to get 45fps+ for about 20-30sec then try looking around the frame rates usually come back up to 30-60fps range (normal, before updates, maybe even a slight improvement?). Sometimes I have to stare at the sky longer or try multiple times. I had this issue to a lesser extent before the updates too, but not nearly as drastic.
Rosebud47 Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Had nearly the same issue recently on the Normandy map. In the first moments in the air terrible performance and visuals, after 20 -30sec. it suddenly turns to usual performance and visuals. Maybe VRAM issue when loading up the scenery... ? Nealius Posted May 21, 2019 Author Posted May 21, 2019 I might tweak my Steam VR settings. I had them at 100% and was getting good performance before, but after the update I might have to bump that up to 150% like crazyave said.

Nealius Posted May 21, 2019 Author Posted May 21, 2019 I am on Standalone. DCS won't run in VR without SteamVR.
