zero Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 I have noticed that spoilers are active - if takeoff is selected as instant action. Starting cold dark, spoilers are not activated. They work only as aileron. What switch did I miss in the start procedure? :joystick:
electricaltill Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 Depends where anti skid switch is positioned. In any case they retract the moment you open the throttles.
Jansgi Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 Turn the ANTI SKID SPOILER BK switch to BOTH before takeoff. http://www.heatblur.se/F-14Manual/cockpit.html#lvc 7. ANTI SKID SPOILER BK switch Selection switch determining operation anti-skid and spoiler brake systems. BOTH - Enables both anti-skid and spoiler brake function with weight on wheels. OFF - Turns off both systems. SPOILER BK - Spoiler brake, enables spoiler brake function with weight on wheels. Nealius Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 I normally set BOTH on takeoff, but I get the red BRAKES warning indicating anti-skid failure every single time.
jhanna1701 Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 I normally set BOTH on takeoff, but I get the red BRAKES warning indicating anti-skid failure every single time. I think you want it off for take-off, on for landing.
sLYFa Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 On for field TO as well. You want that antiskid working in case you need to abort your takeoff roll i5-8600k @4.9Ghz, 2080ti , 32GB@2666Mhz, 512GB SSD
Eldur Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 I'm still wondering when you'd have spoilers on but anti skid off (down position) actually. Ashore: Both enabled on TO and landing. Disabling anti skid at low speed taxiing might be useful for the same reasons it's left off on the boat, but then you'd not need the spoilers anyway. On the boat: Anti skid off and most importantly:
Flamin_Squirrel Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 From NATOPS, this is the reason why it's important to have anti-skid turned off when taxiing: When the ANTI SKID SPOILER BK switch is in BOTH during low-speed taxi (less than 10 knots for more than a few seconds), subsequent acceleration of the aircraft through approximately 15 knots will cause a temporary loss of brakes lasting from 2 to 10 seconds. Good question about why you'd want spoilers only. I expect this wouldn't normally be used, only if there was a known or suspected anti-skid/brake fault of some sort.
