Can anyone answer this?

Will the update size vary from the open beta version and the stable version?

And also from the torrent updater and the http updater?

Im on openbeta, i have the F15c and the Nevada modules and the updates are always huge. Current update is 11gb.

Thanks

Aside from not updating as soon as an update goes live don't think there's much you can do. Never heard anyone say http download works better.

I tried that the other day, the update was 2.5gb i left it for a couple of days and then it blew it out of the water, it was over 11gb.

I can understand that DCS is a pretty big sim but theres got to be a better way to deliver the updates. Maybe just update the mods you have and not all mods, maybe?

Well, the Stable gets updated less frequently than the OB, so if you would switch to the Stable you will get updates less often.

Only installed modules are updated. Your 11GB update was mostly the Nevada map. I have all maps and the update was ~42GB.

Not really .. each module is divided in two parts: a private one that contains mostly the cockpit and AFM code, and a public one that contains the 3d model and liveries ... this is done so that you can see other players on MP even if you dont own the module they are flying, and also allows you to use other modules as AI planes (with a standard SFM flight model) even if you dont own them.

For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra

For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar

Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB

Thanks for your input, so if i convert it to the stable ver then it may not be updated that often. now thats an idea. it can be done via command line i believe. ill do some searching thanks. BTW 42gb for your update? it would take me six months to download that.

But the public part is always installed... as part of the core game. Either view the core game as a mod, or separate the core from the mods. So really only the core and installed mods are updated. ;)

ok, so ive now switched from openalpha to released. the updater downloaded around 2gb of delta files and now wants to update to the latest ver. the update is 5gb which is way better than the openalpha update. is there a way i can confirm that i am now on the released version?

There is some config or log file that will tell on what branch (Open Beta or Stable Release) your DCS installation is on, but I forgot where. One way to make sure you are on the Stable Release is, to wait till the next open beta update arrives (hopefully on Wednesday next week) and see if it wants to update or not (it should not).
