SAM-Smasher Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 I must admit, in all the time ive been flying LOMAC, I had not touched upon the Russian fighters through my own ignorance. This past week I made myself fly them and learn their ways, and you know what, I now seriously enjoy flying these aircraft in the sim, with proper trimming and care they are so graceful in flight and deadly in combat, the lack of digital technology in the cockpit makes it that more thrilling and satisfying when you take down a Western jet, the types of which that are made out to be near invincible. If anyone has been too bias to fly the Russian planes, swallow the bias and fly them, they truely are pure good fun and deadly powerful, in the right hands these angels of flight are the devils of combat. :D Sorry about that, but I had to say it, im just enjoying the flying of the Russian aircraft way too much  "I love smashing the crap out of those buggers on the ground who keep making a beeping sound on my RWR..... the bells the bells!!!!!!.... erm yeah.... I like destroying SAM sites, thats the main point"
Megile Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 :D Yeah no doubt each and every plane in LOMAC is fun to fly.. they each have their own intricacies.
SAM-Smasher Posted November 12, 2004 Author Posted November 12, 2004 Which is one reason why this sim is impossible to put down. "I love smashing the crap out of those buggers on the ground who keep making a beeping sound on my RWR..... the bells the bells!!!!!!.... erm yeah.... Kula66 Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 Yep ... I am actually starting to like flying without a HUD in the Su-25 ... and those BIG rockets are just the business!!! James

SAM-Smasher Posted November 12, 2004 Author Posted November 12, 2004 Yep ... I am actually starting to like flying without a HUD in the Su-25 ... and those BIG rockets are just the business!!! I have to agree with you there, the jump between flying the A10 and SU-25 is quite large, and it is real fun lining up targets and flying about on instruments. For some reason I also feel safer in the SU-25 which invites me to take more risks when attacking targets. "I love smashing the crap out of those buggers on the ground who keep making a beeping sound on my RWR..... the bells the bells!!!!!!.... erm yeah.... Kula66 Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 >>some reason I also feel safer in the SU-25 << The visability is poor, but I think its the extra speed over the A-10 ... the A-10 always seems to be struggling! James
enigma6584 Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 There is a good number of interesting observations in this thread. I heartily agree with all. I would also add that this sim actually teaches you about flying like no other sim does. IMHO of course! :)
Drakkhen Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 Re: Enjoying Russian aircraft in LOMAC I had not touched upon the Russian fighters through my own ignorance. I'm just quite the opposite, I only flew F-15 and A-10 once each. IR-only tactics with MiG and Su are so awesome. SAM-Smasher Posted November 15, 2004 Author Posted November 15, 2004 The visability is poor, but I think its the extra speed over the A-10 ... the A-10 always seems to be struggling! Anything that reduces TOT has got to be good!! The less time I spend dodging AA fire the more chance the plane has of getting out of it. Despite being slower however, the A10 can knock out air defences at range with Mavs, so that it can proceed to target un-disturbed. so there are ups and downs with both aircraft, as we have dis-cussed. I suppose with this flight sim its how you prefer to fly at the time of loading up LOMAC. Who needs more airplanes?? I dont... every aircraft has got all the different aspects of a flight sim I want, so why ask for more. "I love smashing the crap out of those buggers on the ground who keep making a beeping sound on my RWR..... the bells the bells!!!!!!.... erm yeah.... SUBS17 Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 Yeah the Su25 is definately my favourite Russian aircraft in Lockon. I think they picked the perfect time setting as both US and Russian aircraft technology were fairly close. So there is a balance between both sides. I've flown all the aircraft and done all the campaigns in LockOn and the Su25 is the most challenging of them all. It sort of takes you back to the good ol days when the Hud just had a setka sight, gun/missile sight or bomb pipper and that was it.(no fancy HUD symbols) Also the speed is the biggest challenge, as well as having to search for those targets. The A-10 is very easy, in one pass in the quick action you can nail all the targets. Which is good but not as much fun for me as doing it the hard way. cheers Subs [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]

Hehe...in that case you wont have much fun with the Su-25T in 1.1 8) .....once you have got the hang of the Shkval/Vikhr combination, the Su-25T has a rather devastating effect on a tank colum  JJ
Cromewell Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 I like the Su25 better than the a10 simply because its got a better weapon variety, and it flies faster
Honeyman Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 Re: Enjoying Russian aircraft in LOMAC I must admit, in all the time ive been flying LOMAC, I had not touched upon the Russian fighters through my own ignorance. Sorry for breaking into, but... myself is the exactly opposite case. Having lots of pleasure with Su-s and sometime with MiG-s, I've been totally ignorant to F-15 (but haven't miss playing with A-10A of course, due to its boomstick, and refuse trying it is impossible :) ). But I'm sure I'm losing some important part of Lock On gameplay being ignoring the Eagle, so... can someone please give some promotion to it :) ?
S77th-GOYA Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 The 15... let's see. It is the fastest jet in the game, it has autotrim, it has the AMRAAM, it can carry plenty of fuel, once you learn it, it has a good radar, it has TWS mode, it has the best RWR for situational awareness (arguably), and it has the least pilot workload of any plane in the game. Some think it's not challenging enough, but those people should try to flush a Russian plane out of the mountains with one. Also, I've never seen those people who say it's too easy flying one online against good pilots and have a perfect kill ratio. So it may be the easiest, but it is not easy.
GGTharos Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 It's easy to -fly- yes, but it's still no 'n00b plane' like some like to call it. It's harder to fly a Sue or MiG, but try engaging one of those in a dogfight - you have to be rather good just to avoid getting an R-73 lodged firmly up your tailpipes. BVR is no piece of cake either, and right now the TWS mode doesn't fucntion correctly either, so some of the advantages it's supposed to bestow don't materialize. VMFA-Blaze Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Actually I started out in the Flanker series so much of my experience has been with the Russian Avionics ( which I'm quite fond of )........ I had tried the Eagle and the A10 when Lockon was first released but I didn't like the US Avionics as much as the Russian's, although I've flown Jane's F-15 and Strike Fighters as well...... I just like the Russian radar more, IMHO I think that MFD is more informative.... But then I'm still not that familar with the Eagles as of yet....... I must say that since I've been flying the Eagle more and more I'm really beginning to like it........ I've installed Asromzek's smooth cockpit frame mod as I was haveing some issues with the original frame, it just wasn't up to Ed's outstanding graphics and seemed out of place..... And after that I've installed Rapier 71's kneepad mod and if you search you can down load them as well, they're worth the effort to find.... Now I've done a lot of research (reading the manual ect.) and the F-15 has now beginning to grab my interest ...... So yes all the planes in Lockon are really fun to fly if you take a little time to learn them...... ~S~ Blaze intel Cor i7-6700K ASUS ROG MAX VIII Extreme G.Skill TridentZ Series 32 GB Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SATA II ASUS GTX 1080/DIRECTX 12 Windows 10 PRO Thrustmaster Warthog Oculus Rift VR

Kula66 Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 it has the best RWR for situational awareness (arguably), and it has the least pilot workload of any plane in the game. My biggest gripe with the Russian RWRs is that the put them down by 'your' feet!!!!! Except in the Su-25 (which I'm definately starting to prefer to the A-10 - Mavs excluded), but I guess that will get move the the 25T ... So you have to look right down to see them!! Also they don't show multiple threats anywhere near as well ... IMHO James
SAM-Smasher Posted November 16, 2004 Author Posted November 16, 2004 My biggest gripe with the Russian RWRs is that the put them down by 'your' feet!!!!! I have to agree with you there mate, the RWR's positioning really annoys me, but hey we cant have everything I suppose. Another thing about the RWR, is I always have trouble remembering which number light means what type of radar, doesnt bother me a huge deal I can usually guess what it is. :) For those of you who have flown the MiG29 in the ground attack role, would you agree that it is great fun in that aircraft? making a fast swiping rocket attack at the target dropping flares a burning away before the AA gets wise? 8) "I love smashing the crap out of those buggers on the ground who keep making a beeping sound on my RWR..... the bells the bells!!!!!!.... erm yeah.... Drakkhen Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Agreed. But for the RWR, the logic is simple... left is the highest danger, right is the lowest. SAM-Smasher Posted November 16, 2004 Author Posted November 16, 2004 left is the highest danger, right is the lowest. Ok I see what you are saying, so would I be right in saying EWR to the right, and Air radar to the Left, AA and SAMs in between all that! You see I had read all of this before, but in flight I just go cross eyed looking at the RWR, I think a Post-It note on my monitor or keyboard my drill that through. "I love smashing the crap out of those buggers on the ground who keep making a beeping sound on my RWR..... the bells the bells!!!!!!.... erm yeah....
