Gianky Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 Hey there! The new manual version (much appreciated, thank you!) at pages 148 and 149 says that we can load a single or a pair of GBU-12s on station 5. Is that a typo, or something we can expect in the future? And why only for LGBs and not JDAMs (at least a single 38, since it seems that BRU-32 is able to load it and be used on station 5, according to the manual)? Thanks for your answers!
_mu110_ Posted August 6, 2019 Posted August 6, 2019 I'm thinking it might be an error, I can't find anything about it being actually loaded on a jet or that it is even possible to do so. If it is though, the difference between LGB's and JDAM's could be explained by the fact that dual JDAM uses the BRU 55 as opposed to the 33. Check out my skins and mods on the User Files.
Gianky Posted August 8, 2019 Author Posted August 8, 2019 Hi mu, yeah, I thought it could be a mistake, I'd like to know more from the dev, if possible. As for the JDAMs, sure, you could only bring one with BRU-32, seeing what the manual says.
Rescue Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 (edited) AFAIK the station 5 does not have some sort of data link what's required for JDAM's. LGB does not need such a data link, because you can't Programm the code like it is now (its incorrect, laser code has to be set on ground manually/ maybe because of WIP/EA). So at least it's just another dumb bomb with on-board guidance and should be loadable on station 5. I still may be wrong. Edited August 8, 2019 by Rescue
dudeman17 Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 IIRC when the hornet was first released we could put a single gbu-24 on the belly station. that is except for it not being usable at the time and subsequently removed. not sure when we'll get it back. Tholozor Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 (edited) The GBU-24 can't be loaded on the centerline, the laser-spot seeker on the nose is too long to clear the nose gear when deployed, and the rear guide fins when folded wouldn't fit between the aft landing gear doors. In fact you probably can't load any LGB on the centerline station because the rear guide fins would most likely make contact with the underbelly of the fuselage when the bomb is released. The centerline pylon simply doesn't have enough clearance between the bomb and the fuselage for a safe release. Trying GBU-12s on a BRU-33 wouldn't work either, because then the guide fins definitely would make contact with the engine intakes on release. Gianky Posted August 9, 2019 Author Posted August 9, 2019 So, it looks like it's a mistake on the manual. Should we tag this as a bug? :D
Rainmaker Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 The centerline pylon simply doesn't have enough clearance between the bomb and the fuselage for a safe release. Trying GBU-12s on a BRU-33 wouldn't work either, because then the guide fins definitely would make contact with the engine intakes on release. Not sure that would be a huge concern. The tail fin lanyard doesn’t pull the pin immediately, there’s time for separation. The -14 and -15E CFT BRU stations would suffer the same fate if it were. Judging by the pics out there with -82s loaded, the “could” would probably come down to the tail kit size vs the gear door clearance on the ground. Definetly don’t think you’d fit a -24 in there, probably not a -10, but maybe a -12? Then of course, in the real world, we have to worry about aerodynamic loads and all that other crap no one really considers when we think sims/games.
