TWCS Throttle- Z rotation problems

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

Lately, i assume from my extensive helicopter flying, the Z axis on the throttle (the rocker pedals on the back of the unit) has a twitch to one side (right). Im afraid that i have "over used" mine.

I think it can be few things:

a) The potentiometer is becoming tired.

b) The Spring that should center it is getting old.

c) Both of above :(

I would like to replace the potentiometer in it. Does anybody know, what type of pot they use inside that?

I have changed USB ports for debugging.

As the 'twitch' is getting worse, i dont want to set (any higher) deadzone, its getting silly.

And i dont want to get pedals, ive used with those and get the job done even in the UH1.

Or if you have a old TWCS throttle laying about with OK perormance on the Z axis and spring, i could consider buying it for spare parts.

Thank you.

:joystick:

Im so happy that I found DCS, the free time i might have had - gone :suspect:

Thank you for the replys.

I got the same problem, but i use the rocker for zoom. Usually WD40 gets rid of it for a couple of days. You can try to clean it or get a better/more durable pot instead.

I have designed a contactless sensor replacement (magnetoresistive) for this pot type, which will solve spiking/ worn pot problems once and for all. Earlier I made a version based on an Allegro hall sensor, but that was more of a hassle than what it was worth.

Only thing is I designed the axle to fit the Cougar & TM16000 sticks which have different shafts. I dont know what shaft type and length the TWCS throttle has. Could somebody send me pictures and/or check shaft diameter and length? The shafts are either ~4 or 5mm in diameter and 12 or 15mm long.

I am joining to the club too. My TWCS is relatively new but the z-axis is only responsive to left side.

Since I have pedals and I don't need it as a rudder, I use this axis as two buttons by means of XPadder, left movement-button one and right movement-button two, but now I have had to disable the right button.

Would be this video helpful? Are you somehow able to get the measurements?

I do not want to disassemble my throttle apart from the base since it is still under warranty. I am waiting for a heads up from Thrustmaster if there is no warranty void sticker or such and if I can try to clean the potentiometer.

Same here, after 2 months of flying mostly helicopters the z-axis (used for pedals and rudder) got a little crazy, it produced spikes (mostly on CCW rotations).
My currently working solution:
.) Dismantle the thing according to Arvey Jay's video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVzhEgHS4bA
.) Pull the potentiometer off the top to have it loose (didn't touch the cables)
.) Rotate the knob of the poti to full left and right a few times, thereby pulling and pushing it (but just very carefully)
.) Put back all stuff and re-assemble the stick
.) Spikes are not there anymore

Yeah babe. Let's see hot it goes ...

Hm, after flying a few hours more, the initial problem with the spikes is back. So the poti is garbage. Pure garbage.
