Looking for opinions from owners.

Right now I'm playing with a x52. It's failing, so I need to look for something else.

I fly the f18.

TM came up as a nice combo.

However, although more expensive, would you go with virpil or VKB if you were to do it over again and why?

Thanks for your time.

I prefer flying the Hornet with the F/A-18 grip, and my F/A-18 grip is still on the TMWH base despite other bases that I own. Once you mod the springs it becomes less stiff and operates really well.

PC: 5800X3D/4090, 11700K/3090, 9900K/2080Ti.

Joystick bases: TMW, VPC WarBRD, MT50CM2, VKB GFII, FSSB R3L

Joystick grips: TM (Warthog, F/A-18C), Realsimulator (F-16SGRH, F-18CGRH), VKB (Kosmosima LH, MCG, MCG Pro), VPC MongoosT50-CM2

Throttles: TMW, Winwing Super Taurus, Logitech Throttle Quadrant, Realsimulator Throttle (soon)

VR: HTC Vive/Pro, Oculus Rift/Quest 2, Valve Index, Varjo Aero, https://forum.dcs.world/topic/300065-varjo-aero-general-guide-for-new-owners/

My base is the original Thrustmaster Warthog base. On this base I'm swapping the F-16 and F/A-18 grip, as required. Second to that I also own a VKB Gunfighter with a TM Warthog grip and adapter. But on the Gunfighter I can only use the second Warthog grip, because the adapter needs to be built into the grip (by opening the grip and inserting the adapter with an aditional PCB). You can find the VKB to TM adapter here: https://vkbcontrollers.com/?product=tm-warthog-adapter

ah ok ok, sharing a base makes easier for the stick swap.

"Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnyes?"

What I mean by that is that:

(a) The TM stick is absolutely not worth the money for the crappy gimbal --- no separation of X/Y axis, relatively poor precision, and stiction city. It used to be that you did not have any choice for anything better in the sub $1000 range. That's not the case now -- VKB, VIRPIL, Libra, etc. etc. Simply, unconditionally, absolutely, and objectively better products for exactly the things that the WH stick lacks: separate X/Y axes, MUCH higher precision, and no stiction. Plus adjustable tension etc.

BUT ....

(b) Out of stock or difficult to get

So!

If I need a stick TODAY and could not afford to play the waiting game, then sure, I would get the TM stick.

With a sinking feeling of resignation --- It will do the job (particularly for jets, if not props or helos) well enough, but I will always have the feeling in the back of my mind that for a just little bit more I could have done a LOT better.

I have been in the Thrustmaster camp since the release of the Cougar, Realism and quality are very good.

Personally, I have been disappointed with Thrustmaster not expanding the product line.

I would have really liked to have seen a F-18 throttle and a new F-16 throttle.

I see release after release of new racing sim gear.

IMO…Seems like Thrustmaster has lost interest in support the military flight sim community.

I actually like the fact there are less distict axes on the WH. Feel more like real planes i flew.

New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1)

Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).

Truth brother.

I would imagine that there is a fear of the flight sim community is not growing, and no one wants to manufacture for stagnation. A rebuild of the WH Throttle in an F18 or F16 realism theme, is probably not seeming like a product that will fly off the shelves at a profitable price.

If there was an F16 style Throttle base of the same quality, that combined with my other TM devices, I would consider it.

I'm actually surprised that Thrustmaster has not re released the Cougar throttle, One can only assume that that Thustmaster has determined it to be not profitable enough to pursue. :(

Exactly.

How many TM WH throttles have sold? How many production runs were there to date? After all the time and expense of setting up one line, how profitable would it be to add a competing line of comparable cost/price only to split the limited market.

Offering up the F18 Grip shouldn't have effected the market for the WH Joystick. You need to buy the WH Stick and the F18 Grip to use the grip. I don't blame them for that. Who wants to stuck with a boat load of old grips.

In response to the post question...

I think it depends on which Aircraft you like to fly in DCS, If you are mainly interested in the A-10c then I don't think there is a better choice than the Thrustmaster Warthog.

Years ago when DCS released the A-10c I was happy to buy the Warthog for its realism.

Today, with all the different aircraft DCS has released and since there is not currently a realistic throttle & stick combo for any other aircraft I like to fly. ( ie F-16,F-18 )

I would be more inclined to purchase a more Generic stick

For this reason, I would not buy a TMWH again
