As much as I would like that, I think hell would freeze over before the american administration accepts such overpriced aircraft, over their own at a time its axing major aviation projects. Terrrible thing for airbus to do by "expenting" over 200 USA sales for its business predictions.

Well, we saw what happened in the KC-X program recently. The A330-based EADS/Northrop Grumman-aircraft was selected, Washington went nuts and Boeing sued, the competition-rules changed, and now EADS/NG have pulled out since the competition is now tilted in favor of Boeing.

 

Even if the A400M is a better aircraft that the C130, it won't matter much. I severely doubt that we'll ever see an A400M in US-colors due to the politics involved.

Apparently certain major EADS proponents were in Airbus' pocket ... I think this goes a little deeper than most know.

Even the GAO got involved and they usually have their head screwed on straight. Usually.

The rumors are that Boeing was allowed to take a insight into EADS proposition before the 2nd bid.

This engine runs are always fun an interesting. Scary as hell the first time you do one.

Engines are normally coated in a preserving oil when placed in storage or if shipped to different locations. When you have to run those engine, as you can see, it can become a interesting situation. Hung starts, no start, fires, hot starts, etc, normally happen at the same time with preserved (A.K.A. pickle) engines. If you are running the engine you feel like a one legged man in a ass kicking contest.

It is a loss for the spanish aerospace industry. The A330 was to be transformed in tanker for the KC-X in the EADS-CASA factory in Getafe (Madrid, Spain).

hate to say it but it wont happen...its so over priced and late, were getting tons of orders because airbus cant even get the A400M off the ground yet. we dont even think theyll have a flyable prototype for another 2 years at least.

The A400M first flew on december 11th, and Airbus is doing final assembly on prototype #4 these days. The program IS, however, 3 years behind schedule (and the gods know how many € over budget), but it's flying.

Just remember what happened when that South American plane (Supertucano or something?) was about to win a tender. The day this became obvious there were lots of Senators and Governors raising their voices and countless threats. Anyone know what happened in the end?

im not talking about us, im talking world wide. we got orders for additional J models from foreign contracts due to airbus' failure to field the a400m. these arent small numbers, were talking an additional 200 units. we have back orders through 2015.
