Teknetinium Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 (edited) For those who think this missile will save you from dogfight:) Im sure there is flares developed that will give a flash away to blind the Aim-9x and future optic guided missiles. Or mutch more smoke to fly in. NOTE: there is no tailsmoke from the Aim-9x. Edited February 13, 2009 by Teknetinium 1 51st PVO Discord SATAC YouTube

nscode Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 KUB SAM sorry for bad quality I was standing about 5m behind it, and the exhaust warmed me up nicely on this cold day. Nice heat signature, huh :D Also in the video are some radars and a Gazelle. All part of Sretenje 09 exercise. This was from a rehursal few days ago, when visibility was much better: (second video not by me) Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.

morsmortis Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 (edited) Here's a couple pics I took at Camp Korean Village in Western Al Anbar back in 06 + some at sea pics with the 15th MEU Some 53s taking off towards Al Asad. (Affectionately nicknamed sh*t trucks.) A civilian Mi-17?? It was transporting civilians, soldiers, and marines. By referencing the tail number on google some claim it's a CIA operated bird. USS Boxer. Better than that rusty Kuzny. Here's a Vert rep bringing in supplies. Fresh eggs! Edited February 15, 2009 by morsmortis adding more images 1
nscode Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Notice the disco balls on that Mi-17. Wonder if it's equally unsuccessful at protecting it, as it is on the Apache I also wonder if the person who mounted two of them knows what they're doing. Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
Trident Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 (edited) Yes, that Mi-17 is definitely unlike any other I've seen before. Two US-built IR-jammers, as nscode says (perhaps three, can't see what happened to the standard Russian one because the rotor blade is in the way!), as well as an exhaust IR-suppressor also of American origin rather than Russian. What's also interesting is that the disco balls are taking the place of the doppler speed and drift indicator, which would imply it has been removed from the aircraft, which would in turn imply a significant modification of the entire flight-navigation suite. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy.
