There's an issue where the TACAN will bug out if you fly too far away from the station and come back. Restarting the TACAN fixes it. I'm guessing it's that.

Yeah TACAN is flaky AF in DCS. At least in MP and in the F/A-18. Sometimes it'll die for no reason. I've seen it lock up at much closer ranges and have to recycle power to get it to update again. Then sometimes it works as advertised. YMMV and no promises extended with that system in the F/A-18.

[MISSING TRACK FILE] HSI problem, distance to TCAN do not change

I have find this problem many times, usualy in MP server, sometimes when i run out fuel i need to go back, then I set the TCAN, 31X for TSK, coruse 88,but the distance show on HUD do not change while I'm flying at 500KNT,and on HSI,my relative location to course line also have no change.

To solve the problem,I set another TCAN,44X for example, then set 31X again,it will became normal.

I vote for a bug as well. If the TACAN station is too far, I understand that you might get a false reading (although I'd expect to simply lose signal), but when you re-enter its range, the HSI should display the correct data without further pilot input.

Like Shuenix says, just turn it off and on again, if you've flown far away from the station and you're getting funky readings. I always toggle it when I'm returning to the carrier, just to be safe.

Climb to altitude as TCN ranges are affected by LOS and distance. You may have to reset it occasionally.

You can also select a different TCN station closer to you and fly off of a radial and adjust to pass that station at the right change rate and distance to head to your true destination airfield. Once you are high enough and close enough, switch to the desired TCN station for VFR Direct.

Also, you should always know where you are and what your emergency heading would be to get home.

Can anybody come up with a short track that would consistently replicate this problem? I've tried on a few occasions, but as per Murphy's law it seemed to work in the demo environments.

90% time i find this problem in MP, and the process as follows

1、set TACAN and corse in DDI before taking off

2、swicth the DDI to radar, go through a long time air-combat in one flight

3、find that you have run out of missles and fuel,

3、switch the DDI to HSI,and find that the corse line is missing in HSI page, and the distance in HUD do not change

4、i need to reset the TACAN,it became normal

there is no track file in MP, so you should try it in MP

It seems to happen to me most often if I set and turn on TACAN while on the boat before launching, and then at some point during the mission fly outside of TACAN range. When I go to RTB and select TACAN navigation on the HSI, I have a frozen range indicator.

Simply turning TACAN off and back on again solves the problem reliably. Instead, I've just started waiting to turn on TACAN at all until I am ready to fly back to the carrier.

I checked as well, and this is reported internally, but I will leave it open if people are still willing to supply tracks.

Hello NineLine,

Are there still track files needed? My group and I keep having this problem and it happens more and more to us.

thanks!
