Hey there fellow flight simmers :joystick:

I´m thinking about upgrading my graphics card.

At the moment I´m running an i6700k with a GTX970 and was thinking about getting a RTX2070.

More specifically a Gainward RTX2070S 8GB Super Phantom - my previous cards all were Gainward Phantoms and I was quite satisfied with them.

Not sure if I will move on to VR some day but let´s say I would - would this card suffice (I am still on 1920x1080)?

And what are your overal thoughts on this card or a similiar?

Used 1080ti or wait to see what 30xx series brings. Unless you want ray tracing for other games the 2070 is less capable than a 1080ti for DCS.

There are several good videos that should alleviate concerns for even buying a prior mining card. It seems that there is more concern about buying from a HC gamer that could have damaged the card from OC.

Why do you want to change? Are you unhappy with performance?

I use a GTX1080 with 8 GB video RAM and I'm satisfied. If I were to by a 4K monitor I would certainly think about a "bigger" GPU but as long as that doesn't happen I follow the old rule "if it works, don't change it!".

@Fusedspine33

I´ve already looked for a used 1080Ti but it is hard to find one for a decent price.

And so far all which were offered for a decent price came without warranty - overall I´m a bit conservative with buying used computer parts and normally prefer new stuff that comes with warranty.

@LeCuvier

Yes, performance is a bit lacking with my 970 these days.

The 2070S should be ok for VR and would be a significant jump from your 970. It should be great in non-VR even at 4K.

The 5700 XT Sapphire Nitro+ (Special Edition has slightly higher clocks) is on the level of 1080Ti for ~470 bucks by the way. Good 5700XT/1080 Ti/2070 Super/2080 are on the same level roughly. The MSI Gaming X 5700XT is only 440.

Am I correct in saying that the performance depends on which VR headset you buy, I have an Odessey+ and a Rift S and have a 2070 and the performance is very good. Bit if I would switch to a Pima the performance would drop.

So whichVR headset are you thinking about?

AMD RYZEN 7 2700 / 32GB / RTX2070 / 500GB M.2 with Windows and DCS / 2 - 500GB SSD / Rift S/ TM Warthog with F18 stick and Virpil WarBRD / Foxx Mounts/ MFG Crosswind rudders + 3 MFD's | Now enjoying VR with PointCTRL controllers + Gamematrix JetSeat

I went from an EVGA GTX 970 FTW to an Asus RoG 2070 OC. I can't say I noticed a difference in 2D but I couldn't go to PD 1.3 in VR with the 970 without massive stutter that is now gone.

Specs & Wishlist:

Core i9 9900k 5.0Ghz, Asus ROG Maximus XI Hero, 64GB G.Skill Trident 3600, Asus RoG Strix 3090 OC, 2TB x Samsung Evo 970 M.2 boot. Samsung Evo 860 storage, Coolermaster H500M, ML360R AIO

HP Reverb G2, Samsung Odyssey+ WMR; VKB Gunfighter 2, MCG Pro; Virpil T-50CM v3; Slaw RX Viper v2

@Der Hirte

I´d like to stick to nVidia - I am also using tools like Maya etc. and my experiences with these tools is better with nVidia than AMD.

@DutchCoolHand

I think if I am going to get a VR set it would probably be a Rift.

@Uxi

Are you sure that there was no difference in 2D? Sounds a bit strange.

I´ve toned down several options and even disabled vsync to get decent / constant fps which, even with these settings aren´t always stable and drop down quite a bit depending on the situation.
