Throttle Cutoff Release is supposed to function like the Hornet's "THROTTLE FINGER LIFT" and allow for you to push throttle into the afterburner position. However the button currently does nothing when mapped. All we can currently do is map a button to the "CYCLE AFTERBURNER DETENT - on/off" which means you have to remember whether you turned it on or off. This makes it hard to know if you are burning through precious fuel or accidentally locking yourself into a weak thruster state without looking down in a dangerous situation.

You sure? I thought is was only for bringing it BACK to idle cutoff.

Thanks for the video, Maxsenna! I did try to see if the lever was useful for returning past the idle cutoff, but that didn't seem to work either. In any case the assigned button slot seems that it would be a good double-duty button for lifting the throttle into the afterburner which would be extremely useful for those of us without detents.

Yup! I have the same problem, but I'm seriously thinking about making "detents" to my throttle.

A have an old TM TQS somewhere as well...

All I can think is to make a custom command such that the detent is toggled on both down and up contexts of input. Additionally set special options selection for afterburner detent to "always on" (which means "initially on").

Existing command

{ down = control_commands.AB_DETENT, cockpit_device_id = devices.CONTROL_INTERFACE, value_down = 1.0, name = _('Cycle Afterburner Detent - ON/OFF'), category = {_('Throttle Quadrant')}},

New command

{ down = control_commands.AB_DETENT, up = control_commands.AB_DETENT, cockpit_device_id = devices.CONTROL_INTERFACE, value_down = 1.0, value_up = 1.0, name = _('Afterburner Detent - HOLD'), category = {_('Throttle Quadrant')}},

But then you'd have to hold down the key whenever you wanted to be in AB range. If that makes sense to you probably depends on your joystick or other input plan. It might be possible to make separate detent on and detent off commands with values 1 and 0 but I haven't checked.

Isn't there a detent option in the special tab for the Viper?

However, the throttle cutoff as named is only used when shutting down the motor. The throttle grip rotates coming over the gate from cutoff and to afterburner without using the throttle cutoff lever.

Yes there is a detent option and my Warthog is currently set to it. When I go over the cutoff detent on the Warthog it lifts the grip up and around either to idle or off.

Yes but there is no option to manually go past the detent when the detent is set to always on under the specials tab. So its either always off or always on. There is button to toggle between always off and always on, but this it's clunky because you have no way of knowing which mode you're in without looking down at the throttle.

Pulling in on the spring loaded lever is what allows you to lift up the grip, pivoting under the cutoff guard to move it all the way back. I assume that clicking it will perform the same function as cutoff.

I've noticed it does not always work on some missions, like free flight. But try it on the landing mission. Both Throttle Idle and Throttle Off seem to work well in this mission.

Throttle cut-off works perfectly with my TM WH throttle. Simply bind the command "Throttle - OFF/IDLE" to the Right (or Left) Throttle OFF switch which is JOY_BTN29 (or JOY_BTN30). It works both for start-up (OFF to IDLE) and shut-down (IDLE to OFF).
