Just like in the Real-World™ the carrier deck is going to be a very busy and dangerous place. I'm not concerned with SP here, because every v-pilot should make his own rules for his own missions.

But what about MP decks with upwards of a dozen or more aircraft on deck, with some coming, and some going? I'm assuming that there will be some kind of marshalling going on, and not just a free-for-all of do what you want when you want, others beware because you're on the deck. But that is a big assumption on my part.

First question: should there be marshalling? (EG: you land on deck. A row of AI controlled figures guide you through hand signals (maybe supported by audio instructions for those who don't know the hand signals so well) to your designated parking space. Would anyone (besides myself) actually want that, or would you prefer to pick you spot yourself and find your own way? (Same goes for making your way from your spawn/parking spot to a cat for take-off).

Second question: what if someone doesn't follow the marshalling directions, and possibly causes damages and delays for other players. What should we do with the drunken sailor... ummm... virtual-pilot? Should it be the same as friendly-fire (victim gets to decide on kick, ban or whatever or not), or just bad luck for the poor sucker who got in the way?

I think this would be a phenomenal feature. If they have pathing from the landing area to each of the spawning/parking spots, and then you are either assigned, or you choose via the radio, which one to go to.

Bonus feature if we can have a Ouija board in the CATCC that we can use to instruct the AI where to marshal each aircraft.

Hopefully Friday we can get at least one of these questions answered on this thread. The silence from ED is killing and scaring me at the same time. I know BN said a lot of internal testing and tweaking is going on right now, but hardly any of these questions have been answered.

But the question is, what would you like to see on MP servers? Do you want to have aircraft on the deck marshalled to where they belong, and some kind of penalty if they don't follow marshalling instructions? Or do you want... *deep-breath-in* FREEDOM!! to do anything you want, regardless of how much it interferes with others (kick-votes not to be ignored)?

I'd like to have marshalling from the parkingspot to the catapults. Same as landing and beeing shown my way to the assigned parking spot (so I dont blow up because another pilot is spawning :megalol:)

I don't really care for a penalty... Why? Because its not a thinking marshall.

It would work with triggers, triggerzones, activations, conditions... So a lot of things that could simply go wrong. In those cases, I just want to move my plane to the catapult and launch.

If it works, great immersion. If not, well, let me at least fly.

But, I don't think it will happen. Especially with 14 (18 ) airframes on the deck, the place will be too crowded to have an automatic marshalling system.

What I expect:

Pilot: Requesting Startup

Tower: Granted Requesting

Pilot: Taxi to Cat

Tower: Grants taxi to cat

When you approach the catapult, the trigger will activate the animated deck crew. Will give you some pointers how to position the airframe. When you are ready, they will give the signal for the LaunchBar. Then some animation will be played, which you can follow and then you will salute (hopefully manually).

Maybe we can select which cat we would like to go. Maybe it will be automatic. Maybe it won't even be defined...

What happens if you screw up? Example: Taxi to far forward on the catapult? :helpsmilie:

If you don't want to be marshaled by the deck crew, like a pilot would, what is even the point of wanting the Supercarrier module? If you just want to launch from wherever you want and park wherever you want, the current Stennis is more than enough, maybe with the Deck Crew mod added to it.

Assuming everything works, of course. If it doesn't, yeah, you should still be able to take off if the deck crew got bugged. But being assigned to Cat 1 and going to Cat 3 just because you feel like it, that would largely eliminate the point of the module. That would likely extend to recovery procedures as well. If one doesn't have the patience of being handled by the deck crew, they won't have the patience of circling the boat until it's their turn to land.

Are there any hints by ED that there even will be a deck crew dooing any marshalling from spawn place to cats?

The features mentioned in the news in August 19 states this:

The Supercarrier will include the most accurate simulation of carrier communications you have ever heard in a game. This includes Case I, II, and III operations and unique voice overs for departure, marshal, approach, tower, the landing signal officer (LSO), and even messages over the 5 MC. Many of these parts are voiced by service members that filled the actual roles! We will also include the needed voice over files to support all aircraft types that have flown from a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, including the F-14.

So marshalling via radio should be in. Alright. Great

To make the carrier deck feel alive, deck crew is a must. We are doing this through a combination of static-placed deck crew with animations that mission creators can place...

So a static deck crew, placed manually by mission editors, for anything but the catapults?

... and fully pathed and animated deck crew that support launch operations from all four catapults. This is even includes attachment of the hold back bar! We are pushing this feature past anything that has been done before.

So here is the animated crew part. From this statement it appears only the catapults have animated and pathed deck crew.

Or am I missing something here?

IRL, there is no requesting start up or taxi. There is a launch time (starts). Once that happens, if the aircraft doesn't have any problems, the squadron passes it to the yellow shirt and the deck crew breaks it down. There's more but I hope ED works it out. I never use the carrier radio for starting and cat launches.

DO it or Don't, but don't cry about it. Real men don't cry!

It be cool to have animations for the huffer/power cart/INS cables where applicable. and signals from the PCs during start ups.

+1

The Tomcat needs this...if not done by ED, hopefully Heatblur implements this with the Forrestal.
