Bob Morton Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 Hello, My current system is this: i7-6700k 4Ghz; EVGA 2080ti; 32GB DDR4; warthog HOTAS; Logitech pro flight pedals; oculus Rift S I have really good performance and am really happy, but I want to take it to the next level and up the setting even more if possible. My understanding is the DCS does not support SLI for graphics cards. What would you recommend I upgrade so that I can push the setting higher? thank you!!:helpsmilie: F-14B - F-18C - F-16C - Mirage 2000 i7-6700k 4Ghz; EVGA 2080ti; 32GB DDR4; warthog HOTAS; Logitech pro flight pedals; oculus Rift S
pimp Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 I suggest before upgrading anything, try overclocking you cpu first and see what kind of performance increase you notice. I had that chip before and had it overclocked @4.7 watercooled. Give it a shot before spending money on upgrades. i9 14900k @5.6GHz NZXT Kraken |Asus ROG Strix Z790 A-Gaming | Samsung NVMe m.2 990 Pro 2TB | 64GB DDR5 6400MHz EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra | PiMAX CRYSTAL LIGHT | HOTAS Warthog | Saitek Flight Pedals
wormeaten Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 First of all overcloack your CPU and maybe GPU. For best performances in OC you will need some good AiO cooler minimum 240. other options are 280 and 360 but I think for just CPU best buy will be some 240 like H100 for example. Only this could give you 10 to 15% with minimum of investment. Other option is upgread your MB and CPU to i7 9700k or i9 9900k but this will give you not more then 20% even with i9 9900k. So this is actually investment of around 500$ + or - 100$ depend on CPU and MBO and for just realistically 5% gain of performances. Not worth it to change it jet. Your CPU is good for next year or too just to wait Intel 10nm gen or Ryzen 4000 or even 5000 gen whot will make real difference. GPU is roof for now so in next 6 months you cant buy better even if you want. New gen GPU coming up in 2020 AMD and Nvidia with real gain in performances and even Intel is coming up with first Intel GPU. Practically OC is only thing you need right now. With good cooling solution you can OC your 6700k to 4.7GHz without problem even higher. For that your maximum investment is 100 to 150$ for some 240 to 360 AiO water block cooling solution and you can use it again in future in your new rig. So it is worth it.
Chaz Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 Does your motherboard support NVMe M.2 SSDs? Pick up a Samsung 970 EVO Plus. You'll see a major improvement to load times and reduced micro-stuttering if that is an issue for you. YouTube | Kick | Twitch | My Gaming Rig

Bob Morton Posted December 22, 2019 Author Posted December 22, 2019 Thanks a ton guys! Much appreciated. I was hoping I could just buy a chip that would give me better performance but I guess OC it is. I have never over locked by gpu or cpu so a bit nervous about it to be honest. Thanks again guys! Wicked.- Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 CPU and M.2 SSD. With that GFX card it’s begging for an upgrade. I was able to get my 6700k to 4.7 with an AIO cooler without issue. I don’t see the point in overclocking the GPU until you at least do so on the CPU. An M.2 Nvme drive will make a HUGE difference, both in game performance and Windows performance in general. However if it were me, I would buy a new board and CPU. Pick up an MSI or Asus board and an 8700 or 9700K. Either will hit 5.0Ghz and they’re a better bargain than the 9900k which I have. The big difference between the 8700 and 9700 is Hyperthreading. Unless you’re doing encoding or processing video you don’t need it. It also makes the CPU run hotter and has 0 effect on DCS and in some cases can cause issues like stuttering. The 8700 has HT while the 9700 does not. Lastly, if you do OC the 6700, disable HT in BIOS and it will lower temps around 8c allowing for a higher overclock. Good luck!
