[NOT A BUG] Can't Install the JF-17 using Module Manager on Dec. 24th Rel. Branch

i found a solution:

1) open autoupdate.cfg and add

"branch": "openbeta",

2) create dcs_variant.txt and insert

openbeta

3) profit

this is how you can force the game to become openbeta in a situation when you install release and release happens to be the same build number as open beta. the updater REFUSES to do this, even when instructed with "update @openbeta"

This is due to the version numbers of the Release And OpenBeta being the same at the current time, so the updater will prompt up to date.

Release and Open Beta are separate branches, even though they are the same version number, a specific ModuleID can be removed from one or the other separately.

if you dont want to modify files on your own, the easiest way is to roll back then update to OpenBeta, or Roll Back to Open Beta, then Update to the latest version.

The DCS website still says JF-17 is Early access and playable in both Stable and OpenBeta....

https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/shop/modules/

Here it says Open Beta Only.

Where does it say stable?

Also, you should only need to add "openbeta" to the branch line "branch: openbeta", Save the file, and use DCS_Updater.exe install DEKA_JF-17 and it will install the Aircraft.

Since the versions are the same, you dont need to generate a separate open beta Saved Games Folder.

What is DCS World Early Access?

Early Access is an option for you to play this module in an early state, but it will be incomplete with bugs. The time a product remains in Early Access can vary widely based on the scope of the project, technical hurdles, and how complete the module is when it enters Early Access. Eagle Dynamics and all of our third parties strive to make this period as short as possible. An Early Access module can be played on both the Open Beta and Release versions of DCS World. Once the module exits Early Access, you will automatically have the Release version.

OK. Not a problem really. I just wanted to make sure I know what the status is.

If you pulled the JF-17 off the release update you must have had a good reason to do so - which I will respect.

I am more than happy to keep playing it on the OpenBeta.

My only big issue is that the padlock does not seem to work yet for ACM. But I have lots of good stuff to work with (BVR, ground attacks of all sorts).

Thanks

...Now they deleted that line after this report.

They may have, but it still appears in the module manager and you'll still get this error if you try installing it. I've un-installed an re-installed DCS completely to make sure there was no issue of having the game folder moved or stuff like that as the above comments refer to as an issue, and still the error persists if I want to try installing it on the stable version. All I can do is wait before I can get my hands on to test this one inside out.

Hi

Is JF17 still open beta only ? Because, on stable version, DCS updater tells me I can install JF17 then I get this message "unknown module DEKA_JF-17".

the jf-17 world I can't installalro what is the solution? should I wait for the next DCS update?

It is still OB only - next update will be OB to 2.5.6 sometime in February (Supercarrier hopefully) and stable will then follow that. This should include the JF-17

If this is not a bug, then tell me how several other people i know have and can fly the JF-17 on the stable branch of DCS:World? The JF-17 had gone to stable some time ago. I know this thread is several months old, but i am still having this problem and can only find 2 threads where it is mentioned: here, and there is one on hoggit from roughly a month ago where the same logic was applied. That said i still have no idea how other people i know have and can fly the Jeff on stable.

There are a few possibilities:

- they run OpenBeta and don't know it

- they are trolling you

- they hacked DCS

ED didn't release the JF-17 for stable at the moment, for whatever reason, it's more finished than other modules aviable for the stable branch. Picture below was taken from the ED shop page a minute ago.

Just a comment, Although it says on ED shop Openbeta only, why does it say just above that Requires DCS World version 2.5.5 or above!

It was suppossed to be in stable, but removed at last moment, so there’s some things like the module manager that think it should be there
