Justin1Ntime Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Ok first let me say sorry if this has been asked a million times. A quick search on google has not been as productive as I thought. I have been a PC gamer forever and made the plung into VR and DCS. OMG this is awesome. I am so envious of you guys that have been playing this for the last year and blow me out of the sky in a few seconds. I feel so behind right now. First time user to HOTAS (working though that with the Grimreaper videos thanks guys) Frist time user to VR First time user to DCS (watching countless youtube videos). This learning curve is massive. not so much a curve as a straight up line pointing north. With all that being said here comes the dumb questions. 1. I can only click on stuff with either the mouse or the oculus controller. how do I map that to a hotas button. I cant find the left mouse button in the control mappings. Where is that at under controls. I see mouse button 3-4 but no mouse button 1. I just want to map a button on my hotas to click on stuff on the cockpit so I can retire my mouse 2. I am finding with VR I cant divorce my self from the VR controllers. I have to reset my view every time I start DCS so i am positioned correctly in the cockpit. Is there a way to map that to a hotas button so i can just play DCS without ever having to touch my oculus controllers? Thanks
Sephroth Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 (edited) New VR User Question about cockpit view Both of the settings you want to bind are in the UI layer of the controls. You can map left and right mouse click as well as recenter view. You'll also want to bond the VR zoom and spyglass zoom while you're at it. Justin1Ntime Posted January 4, 2020 Author Posted January 4, 2020 Boom that did it. I was not scrolling down far enough.
TomVR Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 watch jabbers, or magztv, or growling sidewinder, but please don't watch grim reaper videos, there are tons of mistakes in them and you'll end up frustrated
Lange_666 Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 but please don't watch grim reaper videos, there are tons of mistakes in them and you'll end up frustrated It's a nice effort he makes al those video's but i can't watch them either. I get so annoyed by his constant quick head movement and zooming that i loose focus very quickly. Andrew u.k. Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 I'm not sure what hotas you have. But if you can start using the mapping software that came with it would be helpful in the future. It's a bit of a pain to learn, but once you have there are endless control possibilities. I also love using a finger mouse (I'm on the waiting list for a point ctrl, a finger mouse is a good cheap alternative.) https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink/topic?url=https%3A%2F%2Fforums%2Eeagle%2Eru%2Fshowthread%2Ephp%3Ft%3D255193&share_tid=255193&share_fid=74365&share_type=t&link_source=app Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk

ignition22 Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 (edited) Not sure how you would go without a mouse considering you need right click and scroll wheel as aswell. I just recently got a trackball so at least its always in the same place and I wont bang it into things as I blindly move it around. Also.. I think the learning curve can be as steep as you want it to be really. For example most aircraft you could start up with 10 or so clicks and have it running or you could do all the pre-flight stuff, read all the manuals and do the super indepth training sessions and spend 10x longer with 5x as much to remember. Personally I just learn the basics of what I need to learn for each aircraft, fly them around for a bit and do a mission or 3 then later on come back and fill in the blanks. Also quicker to learn the advanced stuff later I think when you already understand the basics. Then when you move onto other aircraft there will also be familiarity so each aircraft gets slowly easier to learn. Edited January 6, 2020 by ignition22
DeltaMike Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 (edited) Couple of categories of things: 1. Trim always set to hat switch on joystick, comms always set to hat switch on throttle 2. Speed brake, external lights, and VR zoom always on same switches for every aircraft 3. Gear and flaps are mapped using a modifier, to the same switches on every aircraft 4. F1, F10, and F2 (cockpit view, map, aircraft view) are mapped. Used to have them mapped to the base when I had a T16000, now that I have a warthog I mapped them under a modifier to a four-way switch 5. Also once I got a WH I mapped cockpit camera up-down-forward-back under a modifier to a four way switch 6. I got a gaming mouse for some accessory functions. Kneeboard (show/hide, page forward/back). Show controls window. Show chat window. VR center. I also mapped comm menu to a mouse button, those things tend to go together. Still have some buttons left over. (You don't have to get a gaming mouse, I also used a USB numpad, glued some beads to the keys so I could find them by feel, worked fine. You could also make or buy a button box. Point being, whether on a controller base, a gaming mouse or button box, you're gonna need some extra buttons you can find by feel) To me, that's the stuff that's helpful to be able to get to while under the hood. Still go to the keyboard for engine start, canopy operation, cat hookup. ESC. Flashlight. That kinda stuff, where I don't mind peeking out from under the hood. Took the batteries out of my controllers, I literally never use them. dg6546 Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 See my post on VR tips: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=164892 To OP: Sec 6: Enable RECENTERING and ZOOM for VR and bind it to a button/HOTAS: Options => Controls Tab => Left Dropdown (planes) => UI Layer => Recenter VR/ZOOM VR (bind to a button) You can map whatever buttons you want in keymapping. Could you state what planes and HOTAS you are flying/using?
Harlikwin Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 The other thing you should consider are the point control finger/mouse controllers. You can use your hotas and still easily click on whatever cockpit elements you need to very naturally. Or wait (or keep waiting) for captoglove to get their act together. New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1) Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).
