Graphics problems: Vista 64, 8800GT and Nvidia Drivers

Recommended Posts

Is anyone else having problems with Nvidia drivers and Vista/Vista64?

Although I'm getting great frame rates the quality is dire i.e. terrible shimmering/swimming effect around pretty much everything, cockpit dials, coastlines, terrain etc.

Has anyone found a fix for it??

I had a similar problem, although I don't run Vista. Make sure your aspect number in your conf.grphs is set properly. For example if you are running a resolution of 1280x1024 your aspect is 1.25, or 1280/1024. The default is 1.333333 etc. Each time you mess with the in game grpahics menu you have to reset this ratio. I hope this helps.

Thanks, just tried it at 1.6 (1680x1050) and although it made a slight difference I don't think it is that which is causing the problem :(

I have vista 64 and 8800GTX..

Lockon have lots of problems in this setup,

but they are mostly on sound department, not graphics...

Interesting, what settings/mods are you using if any?

Not sure if this has anything to do with your specific graphics problems in Vista, but Talon posted some fixes here:

Hi Kato,

Thank you very much for this link. "Disable Desktop Composition" did a great Job by increasing stability and FPS by 10 !!!! FPS. I am so greatful, had tryed everything else. Rep inbound.

BTW, i am running a 8800 GT with Forceware 169.21 beta, Has anyone solved the strange Texturing on edges that appear when you set Shadows to Full? (with "all planar", its ok, but not that beautiful)

S~

Thanks for that kato, seems like a nifty trick. Might try it out on all my games, just to get that extra boost!

XP here

I have an 8800GT now with 169.09 and full shadow doesnt work, just wraps the plane in a darkening skin ... any fix for that?

shimmering and image quality seems to be treated tolerably enough with the highest image quality settings of the drivers at the expense though of High Visibility Range which is a must for me ... i cant combat much in medium visibilit range, and ofourse is a matter of CPU here. Despite it being a Q6600 @ 3Ghz it turns to a stuttering frustration of very low fps when use high visibility range. Any tweaks/tips on that maybe?

High Visibility Range affects the world visibility only. It does not increase objects distance appearance.

What exactly do you mean? When i have high visibility range, the objects, including targets, exist from any distance i try to spot them, (including zoom-in). While with medium range the objects (bankers, tolls, vehicles, planes) appear only when i get very close to them (they pop up with the known fade-in effect).

Realisticaly I should be able to spot a bridge, a banker, a vehicle formation, a stationed aircraft, from a 5-10 miles distance isn't that so? Well thats happening only with high visibility range. With medium range i have to get to 10 meters distance to have something appear (drawn, rendered) ....

Maybe there is something wrong with my installation?
