So I’ve been having fun with the Frog and FC3 modules, and am considering my first hi-fidelity model. I don’t seem to be much of a dogfighter at heart although I don’t mind a little air combat. I’m thinking Harrier or Mig 21 for a first purchase. Regarding the nukes, is there something of an assumed rule in the servers that they’re not really used for CAS and ground attack etc? I mean in theory all it would take is one reasonably well-placed among the ground targets, and its back home for tea and medals!

Going to crack on with a little more single player to sharpen up before I join the severs, but hopefully I’ll see some of you in the air soon.

The nukes are disabled on most MP servers.

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

Gotcha. Seems sensible. By the way, would LOVE to see a Tornado module! Zipping along a runway dropping the JP233, or intercepts with F3 would be awesome. That and maybe a Sea Harrier FRS.1...and a Buccaneer. Maybe a Typhoon. Oh, and a RN Phantom ;)

I would love to do that as well, although I would prefer MW-1 over JP233 :D

I'm sure you'll find some mission involving nuke for 21, but you'll quickly find it's no fun at all. For CAS - terrible idea - you need precision not power. There's also no good visuals implemented to come with such powerful blow. All in all, take 21 if you like it, but certainly not for the nuke itself.

I have to agree. I fly the MiG-21 since its release 5+ years ago and have actually never dropped a nuke, mostly because they are not really implemented as nukes, but rather as giant bombs.

So yeah, the MiG-21 is a great module for a lot of reasons, but the nuke is definitely not one of them.

Yea, like others said nukes are usually disabled on most MP servers, and well sensibly so I may add.

As for Tornado, yes it would be really cool to get on in DCS. Though, I can say that Viggen is currently the closes you can get to it: zipping at high speed down low just over the treetops, delivering ordnance, and going out. Plus you have the Mjölnirs too :P

Though, nuke is not even 2 percent of what MiG-21 one of the coolest modules in DCS, so I'd still suggest getting it.

Edit: Nukes CAN be cool to try though, and can have uses in missions. I've only ever used them a few times, but toss/loft bombing from about 5ish kilometers to target can work for example, and against area targets that a tactical nuke is meant to be used, this method is accurate enough with some training.

I've had a lot of fun with the 21 nukes. Plenty of practice and imagination is required to get the best out of them.

I also had fun dropping the nukes in the Fishbed. They're terrible weapons but practicing tactical drops in dire situations was entertaining and accurate employment while escaping the blast (especially the 10kt one..) was challenging (especially since the blast propagates instantly, which is fine since DCS does no serious simulation of nuclear weapons).

But like others have already said, this weapon is mostly banned from MP.
