jackd Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 Hi. I am new to DCS, installed world 2.5, and I am quite used to IL2, got the joystick settings partly OK. Trying the T51 settings now. Alas a few Q s from a newbie: 1) I got the F for flaps working, but Rshift-F programmed does nothing, the flaps always stay down. Tried different buttons and keys .. NADA. 2) is there an Autopilot or at least Autolevel possible? 3) I would like to see a transparant HUD bar with airspeed, height, RPM etc. on the lower screen. Is that possible? 4) When you buy extra planes, is there a refund possible or the licenses resalable to a new 'owner' if you don't like 'em? PS Any graphic mod tips for scenery possible, as the landscape and details are slightly below what i am used to in IL2. Thanks!
Raisuli Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 Welcome! I remember my first flight in a Su-25T. I actually landed it, but the aircraft wasn't re-usable, so a good but not a great landing. It took a few more days before I survived another landing. Pretty much the same experience in the TF-51. The learning curve can be steep, but if you are genuinely interested in flight sims as opposed to flight-ish based arcade games you're in the right place! Where else can you learn to land on an aircraft carrier! 1. Are you mapping to a joystick? If not RShift really is the shift key on the right hand side of the keyboard. If you use the shift key closest to the F it won't work. 2. Only if it's available on the aircraft. There's something called "Chuck's Guides" that are pure gold if you want to learn an aircraft. 3. Not that I know. On the -51 you learn to scan the six-pack; the six most critical instruments. A lot of flying is looking into the cockpit until you get into the 80s and aircraft with 'real' heads up displays. That's the reality of flight, and DCS is heavy on the real. 4. I'll let ED handle this one. I don't speak for them, much to their relief.
jackd Posted March 17, 2020 Author Posted March 17, 2020 Carrier: Il2 1946 if i remember right. 1) yep, TM Warthog, Flaps down work OK, up not, different button. Some toggle function maybe? 2) thanks for the tip .. 3) Real, IMO it's a computer game, hard to watch such minimized meters during some actions ...
Lange_666 Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 1: Do you setup your controllers ingame or do you use T.A.R.G.E.T GUI or script? Ingame setup doesn't work if there's no toggle function available (not all aircraft have this) because there's no action going from Flaps Down to middle position of the flaps lever on the Warthog. In script it's possible to write a few lines working with DX buttons to make this work as you want. 3: Program the View Zoom function to either a button (max/min) or use the slider axis to zoom gradually. Zoom is used to bypass computer game limitations. 4: If i recall correctly, i don't think so. draconus Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 (edited) 3. DCS Options > Gameplay > Cockpit status bar allowed Try LeftCtrl+Y in game then. 4. If you have 2 the same modules support can help you gift one to other DCS user. Some modules can be tried during free weekends. This weekend is probably F-16's turn. Art-J Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 1) mind you, there are two flight modes in DCS - "game" and "simulation", to be set somewhere in the game options, don't remember where at the moment. Both have separate complete control configs. So make sure you use simulation mode with simulation controls and game mode with game controls - don't mix them up. 4) once the purchased module has been installed and used, it cannot be sold, gifted or refunded. Only unused licenses can be gifted to another player - tech support does it on request of the buyer. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
