Swift. Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 With the attention on the FLIR right now, could we start to see some more fleshed out symbology on the FLIR display. Including coordinates, compass marker, and that ring (that is in every video but I have no idea what it is) 476th Discord | 476th Website | Swift Youtube Ryzen 5800x, RTX 4070ti, 64GB, Quest 2
Knives Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Images Maybe for ATFLIR and not the lightning pod. Not sure though.
Swift. Posted March 22, 2020 Author Posted March 22, 2020 If you watch the video you will see its a cruise video of a VMFA squadron, Marines use Litening not ATFLIR. 476th Discord | 476th Website | Swift Youtube Ryzen 5800x, RTX 4070ti, 64GB, Quest 2
Harker Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 +1. Also, AFAIK, the circle represents a frag radius and the pilot can manually enable it and select its radius from within the TGP menu. I don't know if it's a feature of the Litening pod we have, though. The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Join the vCVW-17 Discord. Swift. Posted March 23, 2020 Author Posted March 23, 2020 Very interesting, yeah the coordinates are the main thing I'm looking at and I assume those are pretty universal for litening. 476th Discord | 476th Website | Swift Youtube Ryzen 5800x, RTX 4070ti, 64GB, Quest 2

Swift. Posted March 23, 2020 Author Posted March 23, 2020 (edited) Going by this video ( ), which is admittedly a rhino vid, it looks like ATFLIR at least had FLIR Coords in 2007. ED Team BIGNEWY Posted March 23, 2020 ED Team Posted March 23, 2020 That's sad news when you mean the Hornet, not the viper. corrected, thanks Forum rules - DCS Crashing? VDV Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 So this will be present on the F-16C we are getting will have that symbology? Including the frag ring? I dont understant....same TGP - but F-16 will get it, F-18 wont?
Swift. Posted March 23, 2020 Author Posted March 23, 2020 I dont understant....same TGP - but F-16 will get it, F-18 wont? Hog has it, Harrier has it, the hornets in the video have it. But alas its not up to me to make decisions for ED, at least there are some good images here of what it should look like if they do ever decide to BRU-55 it. 476th Discord | 476th Website | Swift Youtube Ryzen 5800x, RTX 4070ti, 64GB, Quest 2

BRU-55 is used by our F-18, so its not something unrealistic.
Swift. Posted March 23, 2020 Author Posted March 23, 2020 BRU-55 is used by our F-18, so its not something unrealistic. I was under the impression that it wasn't adopted until after the year of our hornet. 476th Discord | 476th Website | Swift Youtube Ryzen 5800x, RTX 4070ti, 64GB, Quest 2
med-taha Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 (edited) The documents we are working from for FLIR do not have the coordinates, compass marker, and the ring. As i Know DCS hornet is a 2005 Hornet I found some shots prior 2005 here you go VFA-105 2004 CRUISE , we can clearly see The coordinates on the FLIR PAGE (ATFLIR) This one from VFA-34 2004 from vfa-34 also 2004 cruise where you can see the circle (LASER INHIBIT CUE) and coordinates time to impact (TTI) and the Azimuth Steering Cue VFA-201 OIF 2003 (even The F/A-18As had these options back in 2003) VFA-27 (Legacy hornets) in 2006 THANKS Edited March 23, 2020 by med-taha
Swift. Posted March 23, 2020 Author Posted March 23, 2020 Good finds med-taha, it does look pretty undeniable that the ATFLIR at least had such coordinates in the correct time frame. It would certainly be interesting if we can find out if Litening had the same. If not then 'ATFLIR When?' ;) 476th Discord | 476th Website | Swift Youtube Ryzen 5800x, RTX 4070ti, 64GB, Quest 2
med-taha Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 I have photos of the litening (USMC) I will look for them . if I remember correctly, the compass option was available too, a former hornet pilot told me that the compass was essential for CAS missions
med-taha Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 (edited) here you go USMC F/A-18D back in 2003 LITENING POD COORDINATES (BLURRED OPSEC) COMPASS OPTION Edited March 23, 2020 by med-taha

amalahama Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 It looks weird that compass and coordinates can't be shown, since it's synthetically produced in the pod and injected into Hornet's screen as TV signal, it doesn't have anything to do with Hornet MC OFP
med-taha Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 (edited) As I understand it VFA are using Nitehawk pods, not litening. Thanks IN 2003 it was the ATFLIR, if you swipe the videos back and forward you can see that it's an ATFLIR The ATFLIR we are getting in DCS is far more advanced than the Nitehawk, so i don't see why this options are not gonna be implemented and talking about the litening i posted some pics from USMC cruise back in 2003 video F/A-18D armed with litening pod where we can see the compass and the coordinates COORDINATES BLURRED OPSEC COMPASS OPTION ON Edited March 23, 2020 by med-taha
