So I know that DCS resides in … Program Files / Eagle Dynamics / DCS World / bin which is the main build and that the OB resides in Saved Games...

Question: Can I run the main build alone once Ive updated to the OB? :music_whistling:

Seems as if my Desktop Icon always pulls up 2.5.6 OB instead ….

Trying to get back to the solid build version for now for my VR FPS' sake !

Actually you don't know that because it isn't true. Yes you can still run the main build if you install the stable and OB versions separately. I do it all the time. You will however need enough space for two copies of the game if you do that.

You just have one when you switch. But you can make a copy of the DCS folder and switch one back. Actually I just don't know which Saved Games folder will be used. I have one called DCS but even my Stable version I had back in the day used the DCS.openbeta folder. Absolutely no idea where it's being pointed at from. It's literally orphaned since over half a decade and I even had it removed at some point, only to have VAICOM recreate it a few months ago (probably one of the many reasons that bloody thing doesn't work, the other being OS language).

I still use the dcs_variant.txt file to force the game to use the right saved games directory

You've got things mixed up a little.

By default:

Stable game itself resides in Eagle Dynamics / DCS World folder.

Stable game settings ONLY reside in Saved Games / DCS

OpenBeta game itself resides in Eagle Dynamics / DCSWorld OpenBeta folder

OpenBeta game settings ONLY reside in Saved Games / DCS.OpenBeta

Things get a bit messy when you convert one build into another, because the aforementioned folders do NOT get renamed (so they may still be called DCSW even though the game runs in OpenBeta spec after conversion). Your post is confusing, but I guess that's what you did previously (conversion from stable to OB) and now you want to revert back?

Correct. I apparently converted to OB and now trying to get back to the main build. I’d like to have the option of having both available to try as needed.

You can copy and paste DCS folder as much as you want to anywhere any drive (SSD Better). IF you have room? Then convert them to ANY version you wish, even older ones.

The DCS.exe and DCS_Updater.exe are separate and found in the bin folder. Link to these etc. Right click and add shortcut to desktop etc. Rename.

If you are going down that path you should use Skatezilla's App.

Tie all the builds into the app first, then change, install whatever and launch in VR, no VR etc. You can even copy the save games folder (Rename) and re-assign the one you wish to use for THAT install etc.

Of course you can just use it to switch the one build back and forth from Stable to Beta.
