From what I've seen of other reviews the valve index being the preferred hmd does not come as a surprise. I haven't tried it myself. My own experience with the pimax 5k+ is that it has taken some time to get it right setup and get to grips with tuning pitools/steamvr for performance/visual quality. Now I'm very happy with it for iracing, but getting the needed FPS in dcs means I'm quite a way of the resolution I want. Hoping the 3080 series will provide.

One thing I haven't seen being discussed with the 8kx is that max FPS at 75 means that using ASW means that half of that is being used to generate the inserted frames. Using 45 FPS with ASW in dcs on my 5k+ does not cut it in dogfights as you will get ghosting/shimmering of other fast moving planes or your own shadow. There is to much movement between every other frame for the algorithm to make it smooth. I wonder how this will look with half of 75 being used to generate missing frames?

In iracing I can run ASW with 120 FPS, which means the algorithm has 60 FPS to generate synthetic frames from. Seems smoother and has less artifacts than ASW at 45 generated up to 90 in my experience. Very anecdotal so take my experience for what it is.

Pretty good summary on the best current gen HMD's. Basically my next headset after the Index should have the same features just with higher FOV and a bit more pixel density.

I really like my Rift S but keep debating adding an Index. If not for the high cost as I would have to get everything I probably already would have.

I wish it had inside/out tracking like the Rift S, would be so much simpler a setup and certainly less costly.

I hear you. I like my Rift S for simplicity and cost, but the poor audio becomes more of a deal breaker over time. Using external headphones is clunky and they fly off when you're whipping around in a dogfight.

I use earbuds with mine, sound is awesome and they are not cumbersome at all. Plus they do a good job of isolating exterior noise.

Yep, I do the same with these Bose earbuds with my Reverb. They fit in the ear great and are very comfy. WAAY better than the built-in headset earphones.

I'll give that a try, I just expected earbuds to pop out. :)

Nope. If you get the ones that are meant for sport like in the above pics, they typically have ways to secure them in your ear while moving a lot. My wireless iphone airpods wouldn't work well as they likely wouldn't stay in during a BFM fight. But the little soft rubber extensions on the bose pic above fit inside the ear lobe and you don't even notice them once they are in. Sound is SOO good now.

And it definitely blocks out external noise. My wife has to come whack me on the shoulder when it's dinner time as I don't even hear her talking right next to me. :smilewink:

Yeah , my ears don't like buds , and headphones are cumbersome . Wish Oculus would release an updated audio solution . I am aware of mods , but prefer an oem solution .

I think to enjoy and get the most out of The 8KX You'll need a 3080ti or better? I feel this HMD will have some lasting power though as far as tech goes

Yea I think you are right, but hoping it's not the "better" that is needed.
