Designate Surface Target from F10 Map and Set as Steerpoint

Can someone provide a brief summary of this process?

The documentation references creating a waypoint in the mission editor and naming it "ST", which can then be selected as a steerpoint by asking Jester to set the Surface Target as a steerpoint.

But it also seems you can create a mark on the F10 Map, and then select that as a surface target steerpoint?

Jester seems to comply, but the the steering cues dont really line up.

Here is what I did:

(1) Go to F10 Map, and create a marker. Name it something (I named it "test 1", "target 1", etc. Maybe I should call it "ST"?)

(2) Jester -> Navigation -> Steerpoint from Map -> Surface Target -> (select)

(3) Jester -> Navigation ->Select Destination Steer Point -> Surface Target

But this does not work, and it still shows "Home Base"

Am I missing something?

In the Viggen (also created by Heatblur), you have to name the marker the exact waypoint name you want. Try renaming the f10 map marker to ST and try it.

Good luck

For map marker use any name you want. Don't check the selection in Jester menu - it's bugged. Check your HSI.

Does not show up in HSI as well.

Set markers at 4 cardinal points -- assigned to WPT 1, 2, 3, and FP through "Jester -> Navigation -> Steerpoint from Map".

Switching between them using "Jester -> Navigation ->Select Destination Steer Point" shows no change in HSI.

HSI indicator set to TACAN DEST (edited), hot start so INS aligned, etc. etc.

Correction:

It seems that it DOES work, but only on the third or fourth attempt at activating.

I.e, after cycling through WPT1, 2, 3, and FP using "Jester -> Navigation -> Steerpoint from Map", after a few passes, the HSI suddenly starts updating the destination direction and range correctly.

Why TACAN? You should set steering command to DEST.

It works for me right away:

1. F10, choose marker tool, click on map, name if you want, confirm with blue bar

2. Jester > nav > steerpoint from map > wp1 > ... wait a bit for him to input coords

3. Jester > nav > set steerpoint > wp1

4. I see wp1 "1" indication on HSI and steering to the new point

"TACAN" was a typo. I had it set to DEST.

I am running latest beta as well.

I've tried a few times, and definitely the setting does not take on the first few cycles. Have to switch through a couple of waypoints first before.

I found this:

at 15:37, he encounters the exact issue. He does not know if it is a bug or a procedural issue. But as far as I can see, he (and I) follow the above procedure exactly.

Stupid question..

Hiw do i create a new waypoint marker in the f10 menu?

You can't. Use F10 map instead. There's toolbar on top - choose the circle and click on the point on map.

I am thinking maybe you are not giving Jester enough time to type in the coordinates? Just to indulge me, select a marker from map, set it as ST, and then wait till you hear no more clicking from him at all. Only then tell him to select ST.

Works for me on the first try, always.

I have always told numb nuts to select the current steerpoint first, then steerpoint from map second. I haven't had an issue so far, and I can watch the HSI and see the direction/distance change as the coords are entered.

The only issue that I have ever seen is that doing it during the alignment has caused alignment issues on occasion. I haven't nailed down the exact circumstances that lead to a bad alignment.
