Cherokee Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 I asked this over in the Ubi forum, but it somehow got deleted. Anyway, how do you get clearance to land. The only command I see for the Tower is inbound for landing. I never get clearance, but my wingmen do. Is this a game limitation or pilot error? Signed, a reborn LOMAC man.
ThirdELTPoznan Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 Make sure if your nav setting is set to ILS, you will get landing clerance than. GROM- Grupa Reagowania Operacyjno Manewrowego
Joe Kurr Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 But with an ILS landing, you only get clearance when you're on final. Bit late I think. Dutch Flanker Display Team | LLTM 2010 Tiger Spirit Award
169th_Cobra Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 Thats about when you get it in real life, at least in Australia. I know the US is different as they will give u a landing clearance on a very long finals even when there are aircraft ahead of you to land and others to take-off before you land. The difference is in the US the final responsibility rest with the pilot in command as oppossed to Australia where the tower is responsible for the runway to be clear before they can authorise you to land. As such you can end up with very late landing clearances as the tower waits for a departing aircraft to get airborne before they clear you to land. :)
Shepski Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 In Canada, a tower controller cannot clear an aircraft to land until the runway is vacated... you get clearance within 4 miles normally. As Cobra mentioned above, in the US, I have been given landing clearance when there are still 4 other planes ahead of me on final mixed with aircraft taking off ahead of them.
Tracker Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 In the US I usually get clearance after reporting position abeam tower in pattern on downwind. That often results in tower returning with #3 for landing as a full pattern will have one on short final, one on base and me on downwind. A couple times I have had to make a short approach or extended downwind because of different speed planes and the fact that this airport has a modified straight in for final as well as right hand pattern for normal approaches. Add to that some traffic may fly left hand pattern (with tower authorization) and we could all end up merging at final at the same time! Weirdest approaches are with the choppers as they always seem to screw up the towers timing ;-). You have probably noticed that LOMAC provides for a relatively long final for such nimble aircraft so your clearance for visual at that range isn't that bad. Addtionally, I have had the tower cancel my clearance just before touchdown when traffic has taxiied out or a previous pilot crashed on the runway. SUBS17 Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 I think that the inbound button does it ok, as the tower gives you vectors on the circuit from there until you're on finals. A set up similar to falcon for both takeoff and landing would be good. Situations where you are queing up to takeoff and likewise enter a holding pattern to land when there is alot of traffic. Also there should be the facility to declare an emergency would certainly add to the realism. Hell even modeling some fire trucks to wait for you on finals during that emergency would add to the immersion. Imagine if they even applied foam to damaged aircraft thats on fire. Not impossible when you think about it. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
SUBS17 Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 How about also adding in runway diversion if your runway is blocked from a crashed aircraft or cratered by enemy aircraft. Or in extreme circumstances the road. Might also need to add in Tacan for diversions so that the freq for the next airfields runway can be entered rather than cycling through airfields. Tracker Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Hey, since we're brain storming here...A clean up crew that actually removes the debris so we don't have to quit and rejoin! When all else fails, Eject then read the manual. Oh, and a good wingman helps.
