therion_prime Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Umm... don't get a USB one, get one that has the generic pink mic jack. This way, you won't waste a USB port that you could use for something else. I think you missed the point. They were talking of hearing only comms over the headset. USB-headsets have a built in soundcard. If you'd use a generic headset, you'd need a second soundcard in your PC to achieve the same effect. Btw. Ever heard of USB-hubs? ;) My DCS movies:
joey45 Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 the only USB thats connected [to the Mobo ports] is my X52/TIR4pro/Keyboard and mouse. on the HUB is printer all in one and my externals. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Aeroscout Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Ok, sorry... maybe i did miss something DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 I run all my input devices to a USB hub and then from there everything connects to my PC with one USB cable. I like the fact that comms come thru my headset and all other sound goes thru speakers, it gives you an in the cockpit feel that you dont get when all sound is on one channel. http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
-sulan- Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Nice to see you guys progress!! Looking really good!! And very inspiring!! I'm building collective and pedals. They'll be connected via usb, using a generic usb IO we have at work for our products. The IO uses a pic-processor so it's very configurable and can support virtually an unlimited number of buttons and 8*8 axes using a multiplexer I've been told, and the best thing about it is it's very cheap.. The deal is I build two collectives, one for me and one for the guy who knows the IO, since I don't know how to wire or program these... I'll post some pics when I have something to show :) I have a tip also, I used an aluminum profile building system for the pedals http://www.alucon.se It's an incredibly flexible system, as suitable to build a cockpit frame with as they are for more fine mechanics (such as the pedals).. The building system is common in industrial robots and stuff like that. Anyway, alucon that I use is a swedish company, but I'm sure a similar product is available near all of you...
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Here are some of my rough ideas: The dots would represent rotaries/switches and layout is for looks for now. I have a small monitor already to use. I'll just place my X-52 throttle inside the side panel flush, and install trim wheels for all surfaces/flaps. just a rough sketch of what the outside would look like And next will be figuring out how to build a collective that works and looks cool? I'm really inspired by the poster Grizzly in this thread http://www.simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2286972#Post2286972 http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
CAT_101st Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Boy I can't wait to help you with that project. I have a few ideas that will make it a little better. Do you want to just place your stick in the middle or build a custom one? Home built PC Win 10 Pro 64bit, MB ASUS Z170 WS, 6700K, EVGA 1080Ti Hybrid, 32GB DDR4 3200, Thermaltake 120x360 RAD, Custom built A-10C sim pit, TM WARTHOG HOTAS, Cougar MFD's, 3D printed UFC and Saitek rudders. HitchHikingFlatlander Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Well I'm up for a custom anything project I just know if I build it myself from my own thoughts, that I would have preferred to buy it off the shelf to begin with, in regards to custom sticks at least. I'm pretty handy in building things but I lose it on the electronics side of things, I can do it I just need to know how! I would make switch panels to screw in to give it that real look and many things will be diff. than the picture and I hope to get more ideas, the drawings are more to show the general structure of things. I have to make it look somewhat decent for myself and for my wife, but the good news is that the sim room is "MY" room! I get this and the garage as a right! As for the stick if I didnt have a custom stick that went to the floor (which I dont at the moment) I probably would just mount the X52 there. I'm also wondering if an old saitek X45/X52 throttle could be converted into a collective control. If you took the throttle handle off and left the post it mounts too added an extension to make it longer. So many ideas so few dollars! http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
CAT_101st Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 LOL. In the same bote. Just need to work on what you do need. That would be the wood and switches. O and dont forget a good desine to go off of whin you start the build. :book: Home built PC Win 10 Pro 64bit, MB ASUS Z170 WS, 6700K, EVGA 1080Ti Hybrid, 32GB DDR4 3200, Thermaltake 120x360 RAD, Custom built A-10C sim pit, TM WARTHOG HOTAS, Cougar MFD's, 3D printed UFC and Saitek rudders. HitchHikingFlatlander Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Yeah thats what I'm concentrating on, mainly the build of the tub itself, everything else falling in later like the more expensive controls like a collective. In the meantime I have a small control box project that I'd like to get working on, I have everything except the new pots and switches. Due to the wife and I moving and subsequent repairs/cosmetic changes we will be making I probably wont have a lot of time to build for at least the next few months. Once the home front dies down I'll have a lot of time and a little bit more cash to put towards this. At some point I'm going to draw everything out the right way with proper measurements and get ideas for the construction. http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad

Triggerhappy69 Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 .. Just beautifull..! The work I have dun with the 4 way switch on the start pannel. Using TriggerHappys desine. I could not find a switch lever to us so I made my own out of some aluminum I had laying around. I think I will make a sleeve to go on the out side of the bottom part of the shaft with a spring in it for the contact. I drilled and taped the top plate so no bolt would stick out. I used a 1/4-bolt will probably go to a 1/8 on next try. I'm so proud right now..! How is the 4-way working for you..? Let me know if I can help you.? My 4-way is undergoing some serious work pending the final drawings for everyone..! I just can't seem to find an simple DIY desing that actually feels like a switch. It's either to loose or to hard to use... But I have done what this group is for, and asked for help ..! Update is coming as soon as I can be sure that it is the final functioning version.. "But (504)Brewber said they were'nt friendly.. So I took'em out.!" [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
CAT_101st Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 well like you it is under going a rework. I just don't have the tools that I need to do what I want to. :( But I will keep trying difrent things till I am happy or you finish your final drawing of a working switch. Triggerhappy69 Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Serious dilemma here.. I have found out by watching videos on youtube till my eyes are red and sore, that the Ka-50 has two triggers up front of the cyclic.! One I guess is for the Cannon and the other for payloads. But apart from the pic below I have no idea how it looks or works.! Please anyone..? [ATTACH]14531[/ATTACH] "But (504)Brewber said they were'nt friendly.. So I took'em out.!" [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
JaNk0 Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't the same as in A/c? The big one that's poppin in from below is the wheelbreak? and the other for gun + other payload? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

I may have double-posted this, since I kinda screwed it up last time.! It seems to have some kind of "fail-safe" to prevent pilots from firing Pylons and cannon at once by mistake.. Input people..! -sulan- Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 that's wierd.. I see it..? Hmm, if it's the picture of the Kamov stick you mean, I saw it last time I was on but not now... Clever Cat!! I used to play il-2 with pedals like that, and use the wheel fo elevator trim :D And it always bothered me that the pedals were so close together, yet I never thought of that :P
