Why isn't the JF-17 module at 50% discount like the rest?

I’m sure Deka knew what they were doing with their free week and $15 off. It’s always a carefully made decision in business, I’m sure they’re still making many sales with their $15 dollar off after that free week, maybe more then if then if more sales were done at 50%.

You're probably right about the first part, the second part I don't agree with.

but I don’t think Deka made a bad decision with their pricing. When it’s been out for a year I’m sure it will go on sale just as much as everything else

I think they could've risked a 50% discount and still come out on top, but it doesn't matter now.

I understand your point of view, though ;)

2 weeks + 2 days free and $65 for the JF is way too good to pass up.

HB didn't even participate in the FFA period and neither of their modules are on discount, despite being of the same level of care and quality as the 17. I haven't heard a complaint about that.

And yet, people are willing to spend $40 on this:

I'm not going to pay $80 for the JF-17... not today, not tomorrow, not in 100 years (duh, I'll be dead by then ... also, currency devaluation and all that... but that's beside the point).

Anyway, the point is that I'm not the only person in the world who thinks/feels this way, so there you go... those potential sales are lost (until several years have passed, that is).

Question is... how many in total? ...

Once the module has been around for a while and some of the investment in it's development has been paid off, then you might see it on sale for a better price than what it is now. When that happens they'll pick up these customers that are more budget constrained at that point in the future. And part of the cost of waiting for the price to come down is they'll have to wait to get use of the module as well...

But you're too focused on your personal involvement in the pricing to see the forest for the trees since as a potential buyer you're obviously distressed by your inability to afford the module right here, right now, and by having to wait for the price to come into a range you CAN afford, you're impatient - you need to think past that...

But if the module is worth the $80 it costs to the person buying it, then they'll pay the price. Otherwise they'll have to wait until it comes down to what that person thinks it's worth.

I think an Aston-Martin (in red) is only worth about US$15,000 to me, but you don't see me whining to Aston-Martin about the price do you?

And I'm not going to pay US$198,995 for the DB11 (in red)... not today, not tomorrow, not in 100 years (duh, I'll be dead by then ... also, currency devaluation and all that... but that's beside the point).

Anyway, the point is that I'm not the only person in the world who thinks/feels this way, so there you go... those potential sales are lost (until several years have passed, that is).

US$15,000 doesn't even START to cover the cost of development and manufacturing of a DB11...

It's really nice to see people unload their baggage (some of you even put words in my mouth, for some reason :D), but you're still missing the point.

Deka is losing money it could be making right now if the price were lower.

Instead of $40 (or whatever percentage they get), they'll get $0 from me and hundreds/thousands of other people, do the math.

If you think that boosting sales is somehow bad for business, that's not my problem.

@Zoomer

Didn't it cross your mind that maybe I created this thread because I'm poor?

I'd like a Ferrari but I can't afford one, but if they knocked 90% of the price I'd buy one tomorrow. Therefore because Ferrari haven't lost the plot and introduced such a sale they have lost my business. The few quid I would have given them they will have to manage without, which I'm sure they will.

The concept of pay and reward is pretty self explanatory.

Also, do you see the script linked below? Do you know how much time I invested developing it, creating videos, etc.?

Do you know how much money I got in return for all that time invested?

Oh, I know what it is to work for free, you don't have to remind me ;)

I've bought almost all my modules on sale over the years (except for FC3, which I think I bought for the full price, back when I wasn't poor).

Of course I'll wait, like I always do, but that was never the point of this thread.

The point was that, imo, Deka made a strategic mistake by not following ED's initiative, that's all (and yes, I considered pros and cons before posting).

Some people who replied took it personally (for some reason), unloaded their baggage and threw some snark, which was fun to read but missed the point.

Also, why are you apologizing? You did nothing to offend me ;)

If you have the money to buy DCS modules at full price, good for you! But plenty of other people aren't so lucky (they don't live rent free, like you :D)

Anyway, this was never the point of the thread.

Well I do save a lot on rent living rent free in peoples minds... :megalol:

I dunno, I'm not going to tell Deka how much to charge for their product, and honestly IMO its currently one of the best in all of DCS, so its well worth it for me for several reasons.

1. I like to support 3rd party devs in general and usually give them a fair amount slack compared to ED since they are usually much smaller teams. And without support our plane set would be much smaller.

2. I like to support quality products. Which deka much to my surprise delivered. Frankly they greatly exceeded my rather low expectations based on other devs first modules.

But, at some point I'm sure it will be 50% off and you can get it then.

I mean I think they offered it for a free week or weekend so you can make up your own mind if its worth it or not.

Whatever the reason is, it's keeping potential buyers like me from actually making the purchase, just saying...

Buy it! Best module out there!

Not only is it the best DCS module, it is also one of the most versatile aircraft that we'll see for a while.

The JF-17 is not better than the F-16; it's different. It's how you fly that counts.

A very constructive point to be fair - also made me laugh lol just the effort of taking the screenshots - brilliant.

All the time the Supercarrier, just eats the dev's resources and we see little progress on Hornet / Viper. To be fair the Viper should have been ED's crowning moment to pull in may customers from BMS / Falcon 4, instead it was rushed out and launched way to early with not nearly enough EA progress made in the last what 8 months.

When you look at it compared to the Deka module and how functional that is, wow. Say's something when third party dev's are knocking out modules of this quality, Heatblur also. The thing that has amazed me with the JF17 is Deka's willingness and ability to quickly resolved bugs etc, just look at the patch notes for Deka compared to ANY ED module in the last 7 months.

I couldn't agree more. Especially on the Viper thing. They lost a ton of community goodwill with that one in a great many ways.

And yes, on the Coding/bug-fixing side Deka has been nothing short of brilliant.

if youre living hand to mouth you have more important things to be spending your time on than video games

Well, unemployed or underemployed people do tend to have a lot of free time on their hands, and really video games in terms of entertainment time per dollar spent are pretty effective compared to most other forms of entertainment.

I have the opposite problem.
