Well, with the purschase of the f16 (which i love) I’ve been thinking about upgrading my hardware to get more out of DCS with my rift s.

Today I took the plunge and got rid of my nvidia 1070 and spent the cash for a Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti.

With the 1070 I had to run no heat blur, minimal traffic, pixel at 1.0, etc, Anyone with a 2080 care to share what settings it can run ??

I’m asking cause I won’t get the computer back until Sunday....

I'm sorry to say, but there is not much difference between 1070 and 2080ti. 2080ti is still unable to run dcs without AWS.

ASW , and that's not the only thing he got wrong :)

Well I would not say that totally. Yes there is no rig or vid card today that can run DCS in full fps consistently without ASW or Motion Smoothing kicking in.

However I found by going to my 2080 Ti I was able to crank some graphics up and still maintain around the same performance I was getting before.

Problem is with 2080ti must have capable CPU as well to use GPU full potential. If your CPU is not capable to serv GPU your 2080ti could run way below 100% of usage. this could waist lot of GPU performance.

That is probably problem if you don't see the difference between 1070 and 2080ti.

DCS is so unoptimized at this point that with 1070 you can run Rift S with 1.4PD. With 2080ti you can run 1.6PD with same settings. Does it make huge difference? Not for me.

In the past I made some step-ups in hardware.

I5-3570/24GB Ram => I5-9600K/32GB Ram

27inch monitor => 32inch monitor

RX570 => GTX 1660Ti => RTX2070S

Considering the costs those steps brought, the difference in experience was mostly small. Biggest was when upgrading the monitor.

A few times I thought about getting a 2080Ti and also planned for a 3080TI once available.

Still even the 2080TI is an execellent card (yet vastly overpriced) as stated above DCS is in many ways underoptimized to take full usage of the card.

When I had the Rift S, the 2080Ti would have given me some 10fps (or an increase of 0.3 PD) more than my 2070S. For me not enough to put in the cash.

Still being kind of envious of someone having such a card!
