GumidekCZ Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 (edited) I don’t know how you, but I’m still having difficult times when trying to read symbols from AMPCD, when MAP is ON. I tried to click every (SYM) button so many times and turn every knob (Brightness) to any position, but still I need to zoom all the way in to be able read something. I’m writing about day condition, but at night mode, its even worse. This problem is from the day the Hornet was released, every time in cockpit of Hornet, I need to turn map off. Can this be caused by graphic card, or DCS graphic settings like antialiasing settings? I fly in VR (dont know about you) but have the same problem. First thing I do when I get in the Hornet is turn the map off, which is a shame but the only way I can use the AMPCD. hololight Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 Same here, I have to turn it off as well... There is a mod out there that is supposed to help, it changes the font color I believe, to make it more readable. I haven't tried it. This would seem a fairly 'easy' fix, don't know why it hasn't been addressed...
Mikaa Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 It seems like the brightness and transparency scaling of text, relative to the background MAP brightness is incorrect. Either the map is washed out, and text is clear (albeit a bit thick unless you zoom in), or the map is readable, and the text is too transparent, even with full SYM brightness. This becomes most apparent at night, where the NGT setting for the MPCD is useless, as the text transparency is too high even if you turn up the SYM. I've attached a screenshot to illustrate this. Just a bit of tweaking to decrease the transparency of the text, relative to the overall brightness, could go a long way to making this easily readable, both day and night.
MacEwan Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 I've also been frustrated with this problem from the start, any fix would be greatly appreciated as it's pretty much useless with the map on as it is. Also flying in VR here. *On a side note, do the Gain and Contrast knobs even do anything right now? I dont see any difference when using those.
isotaan Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 Back when 2.5.6 dropped I remember toying with the gamma settings at night, and some combination of gamma adjustment and AMPCD settings made it somewhat passable with TrackIR. It only seemed to work at night, however.

dawgie79 Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 I asked for this some time ago: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=264863 Later in EA we can adjust the brightness of the MAP independent of the symbology.
Mikaa Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 That makes sense; didn’t see that older post. It’s a minor inconvenience compared to other missing features, and I’d rather they spend dev time on the larger issues/feature implementation first. They’ll probably have to come back to rework all this for the ATFLIR, if not before.

The bright red contacts have good contrast against the map.
