Has anyone managed to fix the msvcrt.dll XP SP2 bug which causes the game to crash during the launch of campaigns? Have the developers fixed it in 1.1? Can the beta testers or developers post a fix on these forums for it? Can someone supply the campaigns as individual missions so this bug dosnt occur?

Cheers.

Hello yamangman

I don't know solution for current version, but I know it has been fixed in 1.1

If SP2 is the cause, you could try going back to SP1. If you have a restore point for SP1 you should be able to do it. I never installed SP2 and so far have not had any problems. Good luck!

Dmut, I was wondering if you could directly ask the devs on the Russian forum if they are aware of a solution for this? I havn't been able to play lock on for months now. You may remember my Russian isn't so good :)

That happens if you launch any campaigns?

Yes, it is always a certainty it will crash during the launch of a campaign, it occasionaly happens when I launch a single mission, and has once happened during a quicklaunch.

You may want to take a look at this thread at sim HQ with people suffering from the same and very similar problems:

http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/boards/bbs/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=37;t=006014

I have tried swapping the various msvcrt.dll files with different versions but it has not solved the problem.

I would appreciate any help you could give. It seems a fair few people are experiencing this.

It appears to be the runtime library causing these problems. If it is any help the version number for the file of most of these issues is msvcrt.dll 7.0.2600.2180 i.e. the one that comes with XP SP2.

I may have ben able to solve this if I could replace the msvcrt.dll file in the system32 directory with the version in the lock On directory, however you cannot replace that file while it is in use, which is all the time.

It’s very strange. We did not hear it never earlier.

Can you reinstall game?

Hello yamangman.

This may looks as a quite stupid request, but could you run "sfc /scannow" and follow requests on the screen, most likely you'll be promped to insert Windows XP install CD.

you might have an invalid version of msvcrt.dll, if so, then running SFC will fix it.

also, as a quick solution to try, you may try to set compatibility mode for lockon.exe to "Windows 2000"

"There are five dangerous faults which may affect a general: recklessness, which leads to destruction; cowardice, which leads to capture; a hasty temper, which can be provoked by insults; a delicacy of honor which is sensitive to shame; over-solicitude for his men, which exposes him to worry and trouble." I tried both of those suggestions Dmut, System File Checker did not find any discrepancies and altering the compatibility mode did not solve the problem either.

What precisely happens is, the loading screen appears, the loading bar makes it to the far right of the screen, but then the image turns black for approx 2 seconds and then I get the crash message. I can supply the technical (i.e. the exception thrown) information if that is any help?

Well, don't give up, yamangman, I still have some ideas to try.

First of all look into Lockon folder and rename msvcp60.dll and msvcrt.dll to *.bak, then try to run LO.

hmm, well, let's try to handle this from other side.

what's video card and drivers you have?

I wonder if this is not a SP2 problem, but a graphics glitch.

I don't think it's my graphics, currently i'm running catalyst 4.12 drivers on my radeon 9800 pro, but I have run lockon with versions back to 4.3, but it was since I went from SP1 to SP2 that i've had this problem.

Oh and for the last test I tried, the crash dialog still referenced the msvcrt.dll file with the version 2600.2180, not the version of th file in the Lo-Mac dir.

sorry yamangman. I've read all your comments and, unfortunately, I run out of usefull ideas. Since nobody did confirm same problem, I believe something wrong with your Windows.

Ah no, that's not what I meant Dmut, but thank you for your suggestions.

You said originally that this does not happen in 1.1, but now it seems it may very well happen. I posted a link in a post on the first page of this thread that shows that many people suffer from this problem.

Well, since we didn't heard about this problem from 1.1 betatesters, I hope it's fixed now.

Even tho you may have done this....

Dbl check if you have admin rights to your own machine (try to run system restore).....There is a known issue with upgrading to SP2 on some machines where the local admin account rights is removed and regulated to localMachine\users rights.

... worth a shot to check out ....

Thanks,

Brett

I think I have fixed it, it was definately a problem with my CPP runtime on my system. I'm surprised that so many have the same problem though, it must be a Windows issue.
