jackmckay Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 DCS life is hard. Thats why we make things harder. You think youre not hard enough? we'll make it hard enough for you. we simulate harder! this is hardcore gaming industry after all.
TimRobertsen Posted January 23, 2021 Posted January 23, 2021 +1 This is a must! After watching, maybe, too many IRL carrierlanding-videos, the white-streak wake is must for navigating astern of the boat. 1 First become an aviator, then become a terminator

Not really, the new wake in 2.5.6 is basically the same as the old wake, just looks a bit better; it still isn't long enough (and is far from being long enough), there's not enough white and it still has some static textures that move exactly with the ship that doesn't really look all that natural. There's also no rooster tails from propellers, particularly at high speed. 1 Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. I usually land carrier by feel. Wake? Those tiny ones could be longer as if it was calm sea it should have been dragged really far behind and wide. Though foam color is faded.. Northstar98 Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 I'd expect those wakes to be much longer and more prominent if the ships were moving at speed: 3 Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. jackmckay Posted January 26, 2021 Posted January 26, 2021 even if it goes straight its still noticably longer than in game. 2

You cannot compare the wake of a "parade formation" for a photo op' with actual carrier air ops. There has to be wind on the deck for the air ops, around 30kts I believe, and in the case of your picture with really calm sea I would hardly think there is more than 5kts of wind - so the ship would have to move 25kts, which would generate a much longer wake I guess. Even if the wake is "fading", so not completely white, when coming from the side at 500-600ft you would see the disruption of the wake in the sea as a long pattern in the waves behind the boat. You can see it in the pic from @jackmckay, which has a more realistic angle and altitude as an approching aircraft: the disruption is visible for a while behind the boat even after the white foaming has subsided. 2 AMD R7 5800X3D | 64GB DDR4 3200MHz | RTX 4080S 16GB | Varjo Aero | VKB Gunfighter Pro Mk3 + STECS + pedals
MAXsenna Posted January 21 Posted January 21 And please. Let the speed boats get wakes as well. Sent from my SM-A536B using Tapatalk 2
CommandT Posted January 26 Posted January 26 One of the biggest issues now is that no matter what wind speed you set, you just can't get the seas to look rough. This is my video from 3 years ago... how much better do those white horses/ crests look on the waves?! Can we not get those back with high winds? 5
