It would be nice to fill i the gaps of radar tech for the 50s-70s for the different scenarios. I´ve seen Freya is going to be included for the WW2 pack. Hopefully steering away from the current Real time tracking of targets from the tactical commander slot.

Radar units such as :

AN/FPS-20

RUs-2

P-3 Dumbo

P-8 Knife rest

P-15

P-20

etc...

The sad thing is that a beautifully modeled P-35 Bar Lock (probably the most important Soviet EWR/GCI radar) is already in the game but only as decorative scenery object baked into the Caucasus map. Why this excellent model was never set up as an actually usable unit is beyond me. Such a waste of effort.

One of things that has kinda bugged me in DCS is the complete lack of long-range, air defence RADARs and EWRs.

As it stands there are 3 functional EWRs, 2 of them are god-awful, decades old models and are completely out of place in terms of graphics. The other has a fairly decent antenna, but the vehicle it's mounted on could do with an upgrade.

In terms of graphics, the P-37 'Bar Lock', PRV-11 'Side Net' and the DRL-7 are the best looking RADARs by a considerable margin in comparison to the majority, yet they are all just non-functional eye-candy that is hard-baked onto the map, that mission editors have no control over (can't place them, can't move them, can't delete them). And apart from deployment/stowage they are all animated.

But at least the east have some RADARs, BLUFOR doesn't have any, and the closest to it is probably the MPQ-50 HAWK PAR, but despite being a newer addition, it doesn't quite match the quality of the eye-candy RADARs.

For Eastern forces we're missing things like the:

  • P-14/5N54 "Tall King" - the search/EW RADAR associated with the SA-5
  • P-18 "Spoon Rest D" - the search/EW RADAR associated with our SA-2
  • Functional P-35/37 "Bar Lock" and PRV-11 "Side Net"
  • P-40/1S12 "Long Track"
  • PRV-13 "Odd Group"
  • PRV-17 "Odd Pair" - heightfinder associated with the SA-5
  • ST-68U "Tin Shield" - the actual acquisition RADAR associated with our S-300PS/SA-10B (preferably on trailer, 40V6M/D masts).

Not to mention some of the auxiliary equipment such as electronics trailers, generators, command posts etc.

For Western forces we're missing things like the:

  • AN/TPS-43
  • AN/TPS-59
  • AN/TPS-75
  • AN/TPS-77/FPS-117/RRP-117
  • S 723 'Martello'
  • S 600
  • S 613
  • SAAB Giraffe S

This is even before we talk about RADAR fidelity or their transportation.
