sublime Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 I admit I havent flown in ages. no disrespect but I was... pretty disappointed. this and BS were my only 2 regret buys. but my question is - when released we were told we'd get a variant with a sniper onboard. what happened to that? Also did they ever implement multicrew?
joey45 Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 Multicrew worked and sort of works now but I haven't tried it. Patches over time sort of broke the module. It's still playable if you change your play style. I think the Sniper version got binned due to complications within the engine. PS. I still fly it and love, I'll love it even more when it will have the new flight model.. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. javelina1 Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 I'll be honest, I flew her twice just after the initial release. She was a mess, and I've never touched this bird since. That was a long, long, time ago. So it's not fair to use that as a rating. One day, I'll try her again, but too many other other birds right now to fly. For the Whirley's, my go to has always been the Mi-8 and the Huey. Hoping the Gazelle is cooking now. Ramsay Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 (edited) Also did they ever implement multicrew? Multicrew was available on release but suffered the same MP sync issues as the L-39, etc. It worked pretty well provided the • host and pilot were the same player • host loaded in first and then co-pilot joined in a cold aircraft. • players checked they saw the same camera alignment. desyncs occurred when • a player joined a running aircraft or mid flight • if the aircraft was rearmed / refuelled i.e. a co-pilot would see his aircraft run out of fuel, engine stop, etc. • the camera was slewed alot (could be fixed by resetting the camera so it faced forward). • the hosting player joined as the co-pilot The already performance heavy Gazelle, suffered badly with the move to 2.5.x as it introduced more lag/desync. As a result, the Multicrew Co-pilot flight controls were disabled but AFAIK weapon and camera control remain functioning in 2.5.6 Note: The main reason I stopped flying multicrew were core DCS issues with late activated units in MP that broke the habit (flying for 40 min only to find the client/co-pilot sees no targets) and the simple fact that two Gazelles bring more fire power than a single multicrewed Gazelle. Multicrew was fun though and we could fire HOT3's as part of a running attack (rather than from static hover), which felt a more realistic attack profile. sublime Posted August 23, 2020 Author Posted August 23, 2020 I have to say as an addendum I was overly harsh they did improve a lot in the last few years, and with a new comp and a proper hotas and track ir the module is much better. I dont htink Ill ever get sold on the KA50 (a ka52 though..) and I may never love the gazelle like the hind (i hope) or huey but I have to say, that Im starting to think I dont regret the purchase. my advice to all is to disregard my iinitial post and watch some YT and see if its for you

Similar experience I will say after no touching for 3 years I messed aroudn last night and was pleasantly surprised. give her a shot. shes never gonna be a hind or what we want, ( i assume youre similar in taste to me) but she came far and feels a lot better. she flies... like a helo. before she felt like she was a ride in an amusement park. ALSO PLS AVIODEV and fanbois IM NOT INSULTING YOU - I KNOW ITS NOT EASY

Multicrew was fun though and we could fire HOT3's as part of a running attack (rather than from static hover), which felt a more realistic attack profile. I wish to add some precisions about your post. I started flying the Gazelle by the end of July 2020, since then, I flew a little less than 50 hours on this aircraft, comprising more than 30 hours in multicrew. We run missions on a dedicated server, the pilot does not need to host the mission anymore. However, the pilot still need to be the first to enter the aircraft and only then to invite his chef de bord to join him. We don't suffer from any desync when rearming/refueling, we do it regularly, especially in training sorties. The major inconvenience of multicrew happens if a multicrewed Gazelle is going down. In this case, the two players cannot join anymore a shared aircraft unless the server is restarted and the two players quit DCS and launch it again - we are lucky, we never crashed during the last 25 missions. I can't say much about the flight model, I never flew a helicopter and I never played with any other helos since Apache Longbow from Jane's. However, the other guys of the squadron are fully dedicated to the rotaries and they started flying again the Gazelle some time ago (I understand Polychop made some changes in a "recent" past). They love it. If anyone already own the Gazelle, you should probably try it again. Visit the youtube page From Casmo, a former Kiowa and current Apache pilot, he's also helping PC with their Kiowa. You'll find on his page a very valuable video about how to setup your curves with the Gazelle, works much better than the curves I was using. 3rd Wing | 55th Black Alligators * BA-33 Εις ανηρ ουδεις ανηρ
AG-51_Razor Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 I too was an "early adopter" as in, first day buy, and like Sublime I was extremely disappointed. As a professional helicopter pilot of over 10,000 hrs including one whole hour in the Gazelle, I found it to be so far out of whack and frustrating that I put it away after a very short trial. The Mi-8 is by far, my most favorite helo in DCS World and I have them all. A squad mate of mine has indicated that he is planning to make an all helo mission and was inquiring as to the level of interest in our squad, if any, there might be. I started thinking about the Gazelle and wondered if anything had changed in the years since I last banged my head against the wall with this module. I took it out for a spin this morning and all I can say is, "WOW!!" It is actually flyable now (as far as I am concerned) and has turned into a very enjoyable helicopter flying experience for me. I'm glad I bought it and I am glad I decided to take it out of moth balls for another trial. I'm having a lot of fun with it now. :joystick: 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
