Atop the midnight tarmac,

a metal beast awaits.

To be flown below the radar,

to bring the enemy his fate.

I'd hate to have to mouse over everything to find that one button I need, so English pit will be most appreciated.

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

Dunno how good your monitor is, but if I'm zoomed out to a point where I can comfortably fly the aircraft, I can't read the markings anyway.

I've pretty much learnt the switches by location now, rather than markings.

English cockpit would still be nice to have, though :)

Yep - I think it probably would be. A few weeks ago I finaly installed TekaTeka's english Su-25 cockpit mod, & though I had gotten used to what switch & light meant what, having them labelled in a language I understand makes looking at the pit 'nicer' or 'friendlier', better anyway. It would be the same in DCS.BS I guess.

Anybody know what the plan is for the Russian version of DCS.A-10? Tooltips, or cockpit translation?

Cheers.

By default You will be able to see tags with quick review/info in english about different gauges when you point it by a cursor so don't worry.

I rather prefer the real thing no translations. Thans to LOFC which :helpsmilie: very much to improve my russian language abilities.

Well, with a steep learning curve, I would think not having to worry about what this button does would ease the pain a little - just a little. After having learned all the buttons and switches, I would switch back to the cockpit native language.

Is there an export version of the Ka-50? If so, then English labels are almost certainly available. All of our Mi-17s have English labels. Would be a good idea to research what languages are actually available.

If russian cockpit is problem for you, wait for Apache mode. It's a hardcore high definition sim - not an arcade with Nadia speaking english, labels on and easy radar.

A Russian pilot understands Russian, I don't, so in order to simulate that I'm a Russian pilot the best bet would be to translate to a language I understand, see? :)

Personally I don't care so much for an english cockpit or Nadia, however I think it'd be nice to have the option of english radio traffic...

If an english cockpit option in a simulation is a problem for you, go and buy yourself a real Ka-50 - no need to deal with us wimps anymore then ....

This old chestnut again - as AlphOneSix said - no aircraft manufacturer would send out an aircraft with the switches & guages labelled in a language the customer didn't understand. Tooltips are a welcome compromise, but real pilots don't have to reach out & touch every button or switch before they can see its label.

It's not more realistic to have someone yammering at you in a language you don't understand - it's less.

It may make you feel like you're doing it "hardcore", but the as far as I can tell from videos & the few in cockpit looks I've had at Russian planes brought over here by enthusiasts, the first thing done to Russian planes when they're brought to the west for use by western pilots is to re-label the guages & swiches to english...

If DCS.BS were being sold as a training aid to an English speaking nation that had purchased Ka-50, the cockpit would be in English - I can't see a military customer accepting the advice that their pilots should all just brush up on their Russian :-) Anyone suggesting it would be laughed out of the room...

Perhaps someone should tell the pilots that re-labeling the cockpit makes the flight experience less realistic ?

(PS: The cockpit labels are just a part of the aircraft skin. Any argument against having English labels could equally well be made against custom or fictional skins. Should only "actual" skins be provided by ED ?)

I have never played with english HUD and english Nadia in LockOn despite the fact I don't speak russian at all. But ok. If You have been persistent let it be made after release by modmakers. Please, don't delay. There is so many other aspects to work on like wind gust Weta than this. You all are lazy english speakers. Russian gauges don't look like Predators' technology but are similar to western. No one before ask for russian cp for Apache.

I agree it is a russian helo and shuld stay that way. I am making my own english lables in my home built pit.

???So only those people who have the technical ability to mod should have the option ???

I agree - if it's not done, it's probably not worth delaying the release for, but it should have been part of the initial build - & yes - fair's fair, The AH-64 should come with a Russian cockpit skin...

Nothing wrong with having Russian gauges. Our Mi-17s have Russian gauges (well, some do, some we totally replaced with Western gauges), but the labels came from the factory in English. My point is this, if the Ka-50 is being produced for export, then it will have English labels available, so the game should have them, too. I think the gauges should still be in Russian, i.e. altitude in meters, speed in kilometers per hour, pressures in kgf/cm2, etc.

Nobody should ask for an Apache cockpit in Russian because the real thing doesn't have that option. The Ka-50 should, if it is made for export (I saw a number of Russian tanks/armored vehicles during Operation Desert Storm, and almost all of them had English labels and placards inside, for example, very few were in Russian). I realize that the Apache is exported, but as far as I know, everything is still in English. Then again, maybe Israeli Apaches have Hebrew labels (and what about the Dutch, etc.)? I don't know.

I think the reason might be that there are two "pilot-languages". Russian for the former eastern-block-countrys and english for the western. As far as I know english is still standard for western airlines and even the "official" communication with fighter-pilots is in english ...

So it makes sense to bring out export airplanes for the western hemisphere with english lables.. not in dutch, hebrew etc. (Beside the fact that every jewish israeli is speaking english perfectly, and mayn, many dutch also ....)

But somehow I think these kind of discussion is not driven by the wish for realism or authenticity. Its more like buying a red ferrari if you grew older...;)

I'm not a lazy English speaker. I'm not an American. What I am is a lazy bum. A single dad with a very demanding two-year-old daughter and I can't be bothered to learn a language or memorize a language I'll never have to use outside the virtual pit.

I don't speak Russian at all. I don't struggle with the Ka50's Russian cockpit ;)

AlphaOneSix -

I believe the Ka50 is offered for export - but nobody's bought one yet, and as such there's no definitive spec for such a machine.

The Ka50 being modelled is the most representative version ED can get information on, which is one of the prototypes that's accepted as having the specification that will enter service in Russia.

So just as the Apache or A-10 wouldn't come with Russian cockpit markings, the Ka50 is unlikely to come with English cockpit markings.

If TekaTeka or someone else wishes to produce an alternate set of cockpit textures in English . . . . well that's fine. But I don't think ED are going to do it out of the box.

I dont really understand how anti-englishcockpit think.. sure, it might be more realistic to have russian text in there.. but come on.. aint learning to pilot the chopper enough, we gotta learn russian too? :P Thats just stupid.. sure, you can memorize russian word and what they mean.. but wth..
