MRL is *extremely* difficult to use in any sort of maneuvering situation, because you have to be absolute in your positioning as you're the one driving the antenna.

It does work as of a couple builds back (was previewing to a friend), but don't expect much in crunch time given the difficulty in perfect alignment against a target.

Well, I ask cause I was trying to lock up a friendly tanker from 2-3 miles away using MRL mode. I got the returns off he tanker in the sweep but no matter what I did, I couldn't actually lock him up into STT. You use full action trigger to lock him up on MRL mode, right? Or am I just being stupid and hitting the wrong button?

Yes, full action. But I would ask- you're not trying to chase up to the return with the HCU when you see it in the sweep, are you? Because that's really the no-no.

I would suggest if you're having difficulty in getting the lock but are in azimuth alignment, gently go forward and back on the stick to make sure the target hasn't drifted. In this instance, you kind of have to act like the vernier control yourself.

The MRL mode is quite illogical because of the way it uses the HCU, i.e. that the HCU controls azimuth and elevation instead of azimuth and range.

Like what has been mentioned above you shouldn't place the cursor over the return, you should just press full action immediately when you see it as the cursor show antenna position, not the position you need to move to to lock-on.

The MRL was difficult to use IRL also and our SMEs have said that it was seldom used because of this.

It is definitely broken though, see here. The elevation is off by 20deg to the indicated target. Very noticable in the final RIO training mission, where the target should not be at 0 elevation but appears so.

This is actually not a bug, the DDD display is not azimuth vs elevation, it's still azimuth vs range. Only the two tickmarks show the elevation, the rest of the display still works as normal. This is part of what I originally meant by this display being un-intuitive, it was seldom used IRL.

This means that you should not aim to have the target inside the two tickmarks, that will in most cases result in you loosing it. You should use the tickmarks to position the elevation correctly and then as soon as you see a target you go full-action regardless of where it is relative the marks.

Omg, i understand now. Thats indeed a horrible interface 😄

I was also confused as i had full action mapped without half action, therefore not being able to lock on the target regardless.
