Swift. Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 HUD designation (as in AUTO mode) should be available in all AG modes, regardless of weapon loaded. I cant give a source for this, but I'm sure your SME's will corroborate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXa_JJEgaII&feature=youtu.beHUDdesbug.trk 476th Discord | 476th Website | Swift Youtube Ryzen 5800x, RTX 4070ti, 64GB, Quest 2
Harker Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 Agreed. HUD designation is also described as one of the ways to perform a DSG INS update, in publicly available documentation. AvroLanc Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 Agreed as well, but we’ve been here before. ED are adamant that HUD des works only in AUTO bombing mode. It probably needs definitive documentation or a compelling SME intervention.
Harker Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 I remember that it was brought up before. As for compelling documentation in the public domain, I'd say that the NATOPS A1-F18AC-NFM-000 manual provides a pretty clear answer. It clearly states that certain procedures use designation via the HUD. And these procedures are given in steps. There is no step that says "select a bomb from the stores page and set the mode to AUTO" or a disclaimer that says "this procedure is only available if the aircraft is carrying a bomb set for AUTO delivery". Example, page VII-24-41, section 24.2.7.1. The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Join the vCVW-17 Discord. BarTzi Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 Everytime NATOPS mentions designation, it's clear that the HUD is one of the methods. As Harker stated, it can also be used to help update the INS.
Harker Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 Hi Information we have says it is correct as is. thanks BN, respectfully, you have information that directly contradicts the NATOPS manual? HUD designation or at least HUD slewing of the ground designation is a common feature present in pretty much all modern US fighters. The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs.
