CajunJosh Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 So today in the open beta I see the BRM1 guided rockets have been updated and I assume are using the same logic as the A10C II's APKWS. Just wondering if one of the devs can chime in and tell us what's now different on the back in and what, if any changes we might expect out of the behavior on the deployment side of things.
VC Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 I expect it should now be possible to buddy lase them, and have them respect the actual set laser codes. VC =X51= Squadron is recruiting! X51 website: https://x51squadron.com/ Join our Discord: https://discord.gg/d9JtFY4
ButterCookie Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 Just gave it a try. Didnt notice anything different, except that they now are being guided by a JTAC's laser. So I guess buddy lasing in multiplayer should work as well. Still need to make a target point by yourself to launch them, though.
MrDieing Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 (edited) If my memory serves me right, the BRM-1 used the Ka-50 Vikhr logic to guide the rockets. I am also assuming it now uses ED's APKWS logic which, as implied above, will probably allow buddy lasing. Maybe if you run some extensive tests you will find small differences in flight behaviour and thus range etc. but I doubt it. They worked before and they still do now :) Edited September 30, 2020 by MrDieing ''Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction.'' Shrike88 Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 I am hopeful this will augment the ranges as well and we will see a slightly increased useful distance
AeriaGloria Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 I am hopeful this will augment the ranges as well and we will see a slightly increased useful distance Was it a problem before? I’m pretty sure it was one of the mentioned drawbacks by Deka of going away from the spinning flight model was less accurate(too much) range. I don’t mean to harp on it, what we got is an improvement and I’m happy if it stays that way, but if parameters were kept the same, we will see a slight over performance in range just due to the fact that non spinning APKWS guidance will have a shorter path taken and less AOA/G needed. Can’t wait to test it myself, with buddy lase it will be well worth the wait:) Black Shark Den Squadron Member: We are open to new recruits, click here to check us out or apply to join! https://blacksharkden.com
VC Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 I am hopeful this will augment the ranges as well and we will see a slightly increased useful distance The useful range is 7 to 8 nautical miles. Don't wait for the IN RNG symbol, fire early, it will usually hit. VC =X51= Squadron is recruiting! X51 website: https://x51squadron.com/ Join our Discord: https://discord.gg/d9JtFY4
VC Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 Just tested, they work great, more or less as they use to. Will hit 7nm shots. Can be buddy lased but TGP needed to lock the general area before firing (laser to MAN so it doesn't also fire and confuse it). Great job Deka, thank you! :) VC =X51= Squadron is recruiting! Harlikwin Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 You don't need TGP, you just have to use the HUD as SPI, and it will fire Really? Tell me more. Does it work like dumb rocket or follow the fpm or what? New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1) Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).
paco2002 Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 Really? Tell me more. Does it work like dumb rocket or follow the fpm or what? No, the BRM will use the SPI on your HUD to allow you to launch the BRM and be Buddy Lased.
VC Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 Really? Tell me more. Does it work like dumb rocket or follow the fpm or what? No, he means if you have someone lasing for you, then you don't need TGP. The rockets need a SPI to allow launch but then track whatever laser they see. Usually the TGP provides both. Good to know you can do it with HUD SPI. Presumably just WP also? VC =X51= Squadron is recruiting! X51 website: https://x51squadron.com/ Join our Discord: https://discord.gg/d9JtFY4
fragal Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 Was buddy lasing for a friend with the new a10 yesterday, it works a treat TGP to MAN, make sure the codes match, fire the laser from the A10, JF fires then "boop" is probably the best description, looking forward to exploring the new brm's have some issues with my JF binds so can't check myself till i rebind them - but thanks Deka your work is always appreciated.
ButterCookie Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 Good to know you can do it with HUD SPI. Presumably just WP also? Waypoint didnt work for me strangely. Guess a target point is needed. Maybe it would work by copying the coordinates of the waypoint to waypoint 40.
VC Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 Anyone checked with SPI defined by air-to-ground radar? I assme that should work too. VC =X51= Squadron is recruiting! X51 website: https://x51squadron.com/ Join our Discord: https://discord.gg/d9JtFY4
AeriaGloria Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 Or even HUD designation Black Shark Den Squadron Member: We are open to new recruits, click here to check us out or apply to join! https://blacksharkden.com
VC Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 (edited) Or even HUD designation paco said on page 1 that one definitely works. But I'm thinking the best way to use then with buddy lase is with TPOD in SP and LSS. Fly in, pop up, target locks itself, you shoot and disappear. Repeat. EDIT: just tested what I said above, TPOD in SP, LSS, MAN with JTAC. You don't need to do anything, point nose in general target area, wait for lock, shoot, egress, repeat. Magic!
