I tried a google.... yes I know I have to kill it in the task manager... why????

 

And would I have been better off just buying the standalone? I've sunk a chunk of money into this. Would be nice if everything could be transferred....

i don't think this has anything to with permissions honestly. steam will never "kill" a game, it will only launch it.

the game should shut down itself, it steam insists it's still running, then the process might still be active in the background even though you closed the game.

 

because dcs uses so much ram (and swap) nowadays, i also find it that it takes minutes (literal minutes) after closing dcs until the process is gone and steam does not show it running anymore.

to the op, try just to wait. it will eventually close...

 

the problem here seems to be a change in dcs ram management, or a change in windows ram management. all i know is that on 8gb ram, using dcs becomes a chore, even if i can get fluent gameplay still, it tends to completely clog up my system.
