"It's absolutely illegal for a Russian Mig-29 to be there," he [Colonel David Nairashvili, commander of Georgia's air force] said.

A spokesman for Russia's air force, when asked about the Georgian allegation, said: "Nonsense. What would a Russian jet fighter be doing over Georgian territory?"

Funny, isn't it?

I hope this stuff doesn't escalate further (to think that the Ka-50 could be deployed to Georgia around the same time DCS:BS is released is creepy to say the least).

Are those coordinates on the upper left hand side?

They might be... the latter values seem to be moving faster than the beginning values.

If I were the Georgians I would be citing that telemetry. That or citing the clear landmarks.

Seriously dumb move to attack a UAV from below, right where its cameras are.

No Georgian migs huh?

Nice work from the camera operator! lol

Not at all. It's a look-up shot, preventing a miss from any potential look-down clutter (like a reflection of the sun off of water or something shiny in general, plus the UAV is likely fairly 'cold'). It's just standard A2A tactics - and it prevents you from the embarassment of saying you had to use 2 missiles on a UAV :D

Of course ... the guy should've just gone gunzo! O.o

All i meant GG was (operating under the assumption that it wanted to be hidden) that if you did not want to be seen it was a bad move.

However, ground based radar probably solves this problem anyways.

Hehe, it could have been cheaper!

Though really, how often can you get footage from an AAM employment on the *receiving* side :)

It sure looks like a MiG-29! I didn't know there's some Russian VVS & PVO left in Georgia. This might take this incident to another level, Abkhaz separatists received MiGs from Mother Russia that noone knew of!

Nice find Kusch! You must be wired to that internet 24/7!

Does anyone know who flew CAP and GAI during GeeDubbaUBee visit to Sochi?! USAF or Russians?!
That Gruzija’s lieutenant colonel should not talk politics, that’s not his job.

Gruzija does not have any SAM’s in the area?

Indeed a very interesting video... Wouldn't say it was point blank range though, unless they slowed down the video, as the missile takes a few seconds from launch to hit. I guess that camera on the UAV was zoomed in quite a bit.

It does look as if the MiG checked out the UAV visually before manouvering in for a shot. Also, it seems as if the pilot flying the UAV knew he had company, slewing the camera to capture the MiG.

I meant the mig could have ingested the debris.
