Hi,

As of late I have been a bit bored with some of my flight patterns. So as of late I have been flying the F-15c "Low and Slow" to greet bandits and opposing air fields. Apart from terrain masking, high fuel-consumption, top speed of Mach 1.12-ish, I have found some new ways of reaking havok from the "ground" so to speak.

So can anyone shed some light on the subjects of some "Low flying Tactics"

1. There is less room to move in.

2. Fuel consumption.

3. Missile range.

4. Masking.

5. Radar settings.

6. Aproach vectors to bandits.

7. EOS effectiveness at low altitudes.

8. Fur-ball knife fighting.

9. A-50/AWAX- signatures on the RWR (Weather it sees you or not)

Im sure I can think of more but I feel that you guys will have plenty more solutions.

Low flying tactics are proper of planes that have small sensor capability and rather preffer do ambush cap behind tall mountains than comming into the open where they would be shot at first (something to avoid) by heavier fighters.

It is a tactic that could be employed by Migs IRL but would be missplaced for Su-27's or F-15's. By flying low and slow in these planes your are giving up any tactical advantages but to concede parity to the enemies full range of airborne, not to mention ground based threats.

We once ran BVR mission on RvE dedicated where the entire map was almost covered with Avengers and manpads. Oh yeah, did I mention that there was a fog up to 100m? :D Go fly low if you've got the guts ;) We did that on purpose to avoid bellow 10m flying exploit. Low flying and terrain masking is known tactic for strike aircraft, but they do it fast. This has nothing to do with modern BVR.

Only helicopters do it slow because that's how they fly :) You'll be mostly flying NOE, hiding under bridges and around buildings etc in Black Shark. But going low and slow with a fast mover in LO is nonsense to me.

"See, to me that's a stupid instrument. It tells what your angle of attack is. If you don't know you shouldn't be flying." - Chuck Yeager, from the back seat of F-15D at age 89.

The problem is that Lock On doesn't really reward you for using realistic BVR tactics, and doesn't punish you for the unrealistic ones ... but I think there's hope in the future :)

I like that idea! The whole notion of flying as low as you can go in LOMAC has always bothered me. Independent of BVR, there are other reasons that discouraged low and slow flying. Unless you do what you did, there is nothing to discourage it.

Sounds good GG, so Im guessing that we will see more realisim in the future?

This sounds great and I cant wait for the new sim to come out.

Also flying low and slow is very limiting to say the least. It is very easy to "Spoof" incomming radar missiles below 10m. Just to think of all of those times where I got hit because of the 120s missed due to 10m deal and then the ET comes right in your face.

I was flying 169th the other day and an SU-33 ws chasing me he was 7nm behind me. He launched a EM and got from 7nm behind me. I was like "OMG you have got to be kidding me!" you would be luck to have a 120 hit some one in the tail from 3nm. Oh well.

Flying high does reward you. But theres a snag to it. It requires an exponentialy higher practice and skill to do it. So most people dont bother and stick to whatever they feel safer/easier and rarely try something different (lets be frank, to avoid bruising ones ego in the attempt). Comodists! And they are kidding themselves. Just look at the kill ratios in most servers. Nearly 1:1

I wouldnt go that far to say SOME RL tactics dont reward you, rather that some unerealistic quirks punish you unfailry instead. Both of wich happen and alot, including with me.

LOL that one made me giggle. "The line of death" or as I would put it: "the hard deck of sudden death". :D

They would ... under 10m radar missiles won't track.

On 169 where is mountain mission I usually fly and wait for victim in deep canyons, of course on termo mode and press Helmet mode and kill :D.

On Su-25T also in deep canyons and looking for targets on my TV... if succesfuly locked then fire Vikhr.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

QFT. I've seen it happen alot in RAF and TuAF a2a server, its just one of those things you have deal with and turn away from, even if it does mean taking flak from an angry MiG driver who calls you a p*ssy for flying away from him and his awaiting ET from 5 meters :)

^^^^whatever you do dont stand in front of them, try a diffferent angle, often when they do this, they rise above the 10m threshold to turn.

doing it at realy high altitude also works as long as you dum countermeasures just before he fires (when he pulls up to meet you).

I will wait untill I can "Tally Hoe" on the bandit shut the radar of, come in behind them and its all over for them. I like the rush of knowing I need to Ninja my way to there 6.
