Orestd Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 I cannot understand why the majority of campaigns and missions are with plane already started. It is a pain in the but going into the mission editor and changing every mission to a Cold Start. Please have cold start as the default. If someone prefers to have the plane already started they can use the quick start function to start the plane. A lot of us like to start the plane from scratch. Thank you. 1
Tippis Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 Nah. By the exact same logic, if someone wants to start the plane cold instead, they can just turn it off. ❧ ❧ Inside you are two wolves. One cannot land; the other shoots friendlies. You are a Goon. ❧ ❧
sirrah Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 For user made missions, it's up to the mission designer. For DLC campaigns, cold start should indeed be standard. One can always choose to use the auto start cheat. Or, if not, at least it should be stated very clearly in the DLC description (so folks like me know they shouldn't purchase) I'd be very disappointed paying for a DLC campaign, only to find out I need to alter each mission manually. In base, DCS is a hardcore sim.. That's why most of us love it. wowbagger Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 Personally, I don't find anything hardcore about pushing the same sequence of buttons over and over again. I'd rather get to the part where I actually have to think more quickly. But there was already a long, unhelpful, and eventually pointless thread on this topic not long enough ago - which was of course closed down. You can check it out for this discussion. 1 no sig
Orestd Posted October 31, 2020 Author Posted October 31, 2020 For single missions it's not that bad. But the campaigns it is a bit cumbersome. You have to go through every mission there could be 6-9 missions and make changes for each mission. And then you have the campaign which lock the missions so you can't make any changes. Now you have to save the mission to an external file exit DCS go to the external folder cut or copy the saved file go to your DCS campaign folder and over write the original mission. You have 9 missions in the campaign that is very time consuming. It doesn't take anything extra for them to make cold start standard and then let the user decide what he prefers. 1
Tippis Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 It's pretty darn quick to turn off and reset an aircraft if you want to cold-start it. Hell, there's even a keyboard shortcut for it. It even gives you more opportunity to push buttons. ;) The standard should be whatever the mission designer is appropriate. There are tools available — quick ones or more complex ones — for those who want to play it another way. Using those makes the most sense for everyone and leaves no one particularly favoured, as opposed to absolutely forcing them to always be a specific way. ❧ ❧ Inside you are two wolves. SharpeXB Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 Agree completely! There’s no good reason to set up missions with a hot start because if somebody doesn’t want to do they they can just do the auto start cheat. But it robs players who do want the startup. What’s even more astonishing it that EDs own missions and campaigns for the Hornet do not include hot starts. (except the dedicated cold start quick mission, maybe two others) I'd be very disappointed paying for a DLC campaign, only to find out I need to alter each mission manually.
