gulfcoastfella Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 It’s been a while since I spent any time with DCS. I decided to check in on the DCS store, and upon clicking on several aircraft’s product pages, discovered that they’re still listed as being Early Access. The F-16 makes some sense as it only recently became available. I thought, though, that aircraft like the F-18, the Mirage, and the F-14 had been out for a while. Has Eagle Dynamics released any info about how long we can expect products to be in Early Access?
LooseSeal Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 The Hornet doesn't seem that far off really, considering how complex it is it's not a surprise it's taking time. As for when Early Access will end, I'm fairly sure ED said recently both the Hornet and Viper should be finalised in 2021. The Tomcat (which isn't ED's product I should add) hasn't been out that long... and bear in mind that includes the F-14A which should be released soon enough, and has some completely different features, particularly the engines. As for the Mirage, well, you have a point there. But take that up with Razbam, not ED. And as for Razbam, I'm sure there are plenty of opinions out there without me adding to it. - i7-7700k - 32GB DDR4 2400Mhz - GTX 1080 8GB - Installed on SSD - TM Warthog DCS Modules - A-10C; M-2000C; AV8B; F/A-18C; Ka-50; FC-3; UH-1H; F-5E; Mi-8; F-14; Persian Gulf; NTTR
draconus Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 When advertising and releasing a product devs put a list of features and capabilities that come with it. Then the aircraft get released as Early Access with some really basic stuff years before completion for the users to enjoy the journey. Some EA are more complete than others and some take longer to complete. That all is in parallel with constant bug fixing. Regarding the F-14 it got out in March 2019. HB's plan is to finish the development by a 2 years line. What it misses is still a long list: 2 campaigns, F-14A version(s), Forrestal carrier, A-6E and KA-6 AI, TARPS, some instruments, model corrections, in-cockpit pilot bodies plus many more. ED Team BIGNEWY Posted November 10, 2020 ED Team Posted November 10, 2020 Hi What is DCS World Early Access? Early Access is an option for you to play this module in an early state, but it will be incomplete with bugs. The time a product remains in Early Access can vary widely based on the scope of the project, technical hurdles, and how complete the module is when it enters Early Access. Eagle Dynamics and all of our third parties strive to make this period as short as possible. An Early Access module can be played on both the Open Beta and Release versions of DCS World. Once the module exits Early Access, you will automatically have the Release version. Forum rules - DCS Crashing? reece146 Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 FWIW, it is impressive the amount of back-filling of features that has been added to the F-16 and F-18 over a short period of time. Seems every month or two there is a big release with more systems implemented. I can't speak to the others.
