KittyVCAW-1 Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 It never shows up. I watched wags tutorial, looks like it shows up automatically for him. All I ever get is abort inbound(no), Clara(no) and Flight Kiss Off (WTF is this?). Pressing flight kiss off The text reads in the upper right but my pilots voice is never heard and no one responds to anything. I roll out in the groove and all the way in these are the only options I get. There is no explaination of what flight kiss off is in the manual, when and how to use it. Also menu diving to find these while trying to perform the most difficult task in aviation without crashing is really beyond frustrating. I tried to make a macro for ball call, but all I get is Clara. Manually selecting ball call the option is never in the menu only abort, clara and kiss off. Thank you in advance for your help. Nobody likes me because I'm unsafe.
rob10 Posted November 11, 2020 Posted November 11, 2020 For starters I recommend this guide to carrier operations: https://forums.eagle.ru/forum/dcs-world-tutorial-training-range/guides-tutorials/module-specific-tutorials/dcs-supercarrier-aa/282647-carrier-operations-guide-by-pieterras Not sure why you aren't getting the "Call ball" in your menus, but if you're flying the Hornet you can assign a key to "Hornet ball" for that (and Kiss off/Clara too). Flight Kiss Off basically tells your wingman that you're turning to land and he should keep going and set up for his own landing (IIRC).
KittyVCAW-1 Posted November 11, 2020 Author Posted November 11, 2020 I figured it out. Was trying to call it between .8 and .7 NM. It doesn't even show up in the menu until around .6 - .5 NM. I'll look into setting up a hot key and will DL that guide. Thank you for your guidance. Nobody likes me because I'm unsafe.
Nealius Posted November 11, 2020 Posted November 11, 2020 For what it's worth, the hotkey works at any distance. In CASE III I tend to call the ball at around 0.9nm because Jell-O cuts me off before I can call it any closer.

"Kiss off" is a hand signal to your wingmen to break formation and enter the pattern. (So named because the hand signal is blowing a kiss. Although I don't think it's animated like the salute.) You're supposed to use that one when you get signal charlie, if you have wingmen. "Hornet Ball" should pop up in the radio menu when you can see the ball on the IFLOLS and are within 3/4 mile. If you can't see it by then, that probably means you are way off glideslope. "Clara," is the call you would use if you can't see the ball in the groove. If you call "Clara," that does bypass the ball call, and the LSO will talk you down. As others have pointed out, the Hornet and the Tomcat do have hotkeys for the ball call, those work at any time.
KittyVCAW-1 Posted November 12, 2020 Author Posted November 12, 2020 That may have been the problem too. I probably kept dropping out of the glide scope looking down at the keyboard instead of flying the ball all the way in. That being said I caught my 1st "ok 3wire" on a CASEIII last night, never thought I'd be able to pull that off.:joystick: Nobody likes me because I'm unsafe.

9thHunt Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 that said, as I posted in another thread a couple weeks ago, boltering can screw up the comms triggers on your next pass. Apparently because proper bolter procedures aren't implemented yet.

Apparently because proper bolter procedures aren't implemented yet. This whole time I thought I was the problem... I assumed that I kept breaking some sort of unwritten pattern procedure when coming back around...and the LSO is like "Screw that guy!!!" as he's walking away from the LSO platform.. 9thHunt Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 ok, here's a link to my thread: https://forums.eagle.ru/forum/english/digital-combat-simulator/dcs-supercarrier/bugs-and-problems-bl/291825-reported-no-comms-after-bolter The suggested workaround was to just go straight back into the landing pattern and use the hot key to call the ball at the proper time.
BuzzU Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 If you have a Warthog the ball is programmed to push in on the mic switch. Buzz
