imacken Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 Thanks for that. Interesting. Obviously down to individual preference, but a lot of these things I have bound to pots, switches, buttons on my CM2 throttle, some by using a modifier to double up. In VR, you don't have to reach everything blindly, I use the mouse - which sits in easy reach at the side of my throttle - a lot for dials/switches that I don't access very often. With the cursor, you can see exactly what you re doing. I have played several many-player events where communications were very important, and we had to switch channels and set volumes a lot in a busy environment. Changing channels fast is very important, and it was really painful with the clickable cockpit. Now with dedicated encoders, this is super easy. I find the DCS clickable cockpit UI really painful for high workloads, since you have to keep your eyes pointed at the control the whole time. It's nearly impossible to turn a knob while looking at something else, there should be a "mouse lock" mechanism. For instance, in the Mirage 2000-C, the UHF channel knob is has a channel indicator just besides it, but the frequency is at a totally different place close to the hud. Turning the knob with the mouse in VR, while looking head up to the frequency, is nearly impossible. So if you know the freq you are looking for, but not the channel number, you're really inefficient.

For me, the cursor is independent of my head once the mouse is moved, so I can change things on both DDis in the Hornet, for example, without moving my head away from the HUD. Galinette Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 Has the new throttle engine stop detents as well? @imacken : that's interesting, my mouse cursor always moves with the head movement... could we discuss this in the VR channel?
imacken Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 Sure. It moves with head movement until the mouse takes control. zcaa0g Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 I like using a large touchpad behind the throttle in VR. You control the pointer with your finger (obviously) and it's intuitive to rotate the dials by slowly swiping up or down to rotate the in game cockpit dials as well as single taps to manipulate buttons in the in-game cockpit. I found a trackball a little too awkward and I suck at using a mouse left-handed so the touchpad works well.

The detents are incredibly customizable so I'm sure they can be set up for engine stop. I plan to do that. dburne Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 Just placed pre-order for the new CM3 Throttle along with adapter to mount to my Monster Tech Warthog plate. I have been waiting for an offering with the Detents I wanted, pretty sure this one will easily fit the bill. The adapter shows on back order, hopefully it is available when the CM3 comes available. Will be glad to retire my Warthog throttle finally.
