Latest update v1.3: Dec 7th 2024

For those interested, I've created this single player mission for the Viper:

https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3313708/

Sortie_241_title_screen.jpg

OBJECTIVE

PACKAGE:
CHEVY 2 is tasked to fly CAS over the city of Homs (Bullseye)
- CHEVY 21 Lead (a/c 417) (player)
- CHEVY 22 Wing (a/c 360)

HAMMER 6 is tasked with SEAD over city of Hama (approx. 25nm North bullseye)
- HAMMER 61 Lead (a/c 403)
- HAMMER 62 Wing (a/c 833

SUPPORT:
CHALICE 5 is active GCI
SHELL 1 is active tanker (approx. 60nm north bullseye)

DIVERT:
Hatay airport

THREATS:
MANPADS (Igla, Gremlin, Grail)
Vehicle mounted AAA
SALW (small arms)

RESRICTED AREAS:
Do not intrude Basel Al-Assad airspace

It took me quite some time and testing to get it right, but I'm quite happy with the result, so I really hope you guys like it too. Feedback would be much appreciated!

Mission specifications

Duration: ±1 to 1,5hour

Difficulty: average (do not expect action packed "Ace Combat" style gameplay)

ATC mostly semi-automatic (player input required)

Mission kneeboard included

No mods required

VR performance friendly (only Incirlik AB may cause a slight strain)

My personal advise would be not to use external cameras, as it may kill immersion

Thanks for this. Just gave it a go. Evidently a lot of effort put into creating the mission. Incirlik is very atmospheric.

I did encounter a slight problem that you might want to take a look at. I'll put it in a spoiler so as not to reveal anything about the mission:

Spoiler

When arriving at Homs, Copperhead instructs you to look for a large railyard 2 miles SOUTHEAST of bullseye. I spent about 15 mins circling and looking, before finally locating a railyard (and a mosque) about 2 miles SOUTHWEST of bullseye. Never managed to spot the artillery, though, after circling the area for another 10 mins and I was still unsure if I was looking in the right place. Perhaps provide a way for the player to have Copperhead repeat the directions (and have Copperhead give the right direction :smilewink:). I'll give the mission another try tomorrow.

@Col. Kernel

Thanks a lot for the feedback! That "Southeast" mess up must have slipped my attention (you kinda overlook your own mistakes at some point, despite countless tests 🤦‍♂️).

I'll definitely fix it!

I expect you won't be the only one having trouble finding the ground targets. They are quite small and hidden pretty well 😉

That's why I added a helper.

When you're tasked to find the target, you can check the radio F10 menu to get the target coordinates (but I can imagine that feels like cheating).

I'll try and find a way to get Copperhead to repeat the talk on.

Edit:

Of you can't locate the target you can also just pretend you do (hit spacebar) and order your wingman to attack 😛

Hi Sirrah,

I flew your mission. I llike the way you have build things up. The choices you have made available are also a nice option. Although I didn't find the pilot I'm gonna fly it again. Thx again for your effort.

I was afraid that it was too easy to find, so it's actually good to hear you say that you had trouble finding it 😉

Flew this yesterday, really enjoyed it! Searching for the target was hard!!! In the end I cheated and claimed I found them to get the coordinates.  On the return I had to refuel as I was running on fumes but didn't think the wingman would just fly in without thinking. He crashed into the tanker and killed us all. Stupid wingman! 😆

Also, just wanted to know, are we supposed to wait for a set take off time or just go whenever you're ready? It seemed to me that the SEAD flight should have gone first  but they didn't move at the EOR.

Glad you liked it (and too be honest, glad you had trouble finding the crash site. I really was afraid it would be too easy, but obviously I knew exactly where to look )

Sorry to hear your AI wingman went crazy on the tanker. Never happened during any of my tests.. But as we all know, DCS AI is full off surprises... Not much I can do about that

You did right to take off first (I'll add a message in my next version, that the player should take-off once your wingman arrives)

In current state, as soon as the player starts taxiing, DCS won't allow any AI aircraft to take off before the player does (unless those aircraft were already taxiing before the player started moving).
In this mission I trick the player in thinking that Hammer flight actually waits for you at the runway. While in fact, the taxiing planes deactivate, and once the player starts moving 2 fresh Hammer F-16's spawn near the runway 😉
I really enjoyed this mission. It made me realize I need to learn bullseye calls and use the tgp better.
