Mistake.

My original post actually is completely incorrect. (switching ports for usb c did nothing).

What gave the huge performance boost was infact going from 90 hz to 60 hz in reverb g2 headset display settings.

Now I did figure out a few really good tricks which DID work. I measured everything with fpsVR.

First off, I had to switch to 60hz refresh. System (10700k and 2080ti) simply cant handle 90 hz in dcs. Otherwise I followed thuds guide and the new stuff on reverb g2 . Boosted computer with oc to cpu and video card which increased benchmark in heaven from 2k to 2.5k.

However thuds gets one major thing wrong. It said to set pixel density (in DCS vr settings) to 1.0 , .9 or .8.

SET IT TO .5 and INCREASE RESOLUTION IN STEAMVR SETTINGS! (I increased mine to 204%, 4540x4420 per eye). This seems to be the sweet spot for not maxing out GPU and getting chop (in caucus free flight- flying close to trees , buildings).

SO MUCH BETTER!

I

You get smoother performance (measured via fpsVR as well as simply seeing it) and HIGHER resolution doing this.

I followed pretty much everything else in thuds G2 guide.

Of course a rtx 3080ti will probably blow this away but this works till then.

I was a bit sceptic, but it worked great for me as well. 9900k+2080ti.

I'm using pd0.6 and 120% steam resolution.

There is a loss of image sharpness of course, but for great value in terms of smoothness and extra headroom.

This is not a magic tweak that will fix everything, but I think that PD around 0.8 and Steam SS around 100-120% is a good balance for my 3080 in singleplayer.

PD 0.5 is a bit extreme and you loose too much on image quality to make it up with SS. No matter how high you crank it in Steam, the image is still blurry and jagged.

Ultimately you need to find a balance between PD high enough that the game outputs enough detail to produce nice visuals, and Steam resolution high enough to utilize those 4k screens on the Reverb.

you are driving about half the pixels with those settings so yes performance will improve and image quality will suffer ...

a G2 at 100% in steam is 3168 x 3096 per eye would produce approximately 5,002,145 pixels per eye compared with 9.808,128 native (100%  Steam SS and 1.0 for PD)

there isnt one for DCS,  however if you look in DCS -> SETTINGS -> OPTIONS -> CONTROLS -> UI

you should find that it is Numeric Keypad 5 by default, most people map that to a button on their joystick or visa versa

This is OT so you might want to create a separate thread... as it has nothing to do with performance  you might want to start here Windows Mixed Reality VR documentation - Enthusiast Guide | Microsoft Docs and here Set up Windows Mixed Reality - Enthusiast Guide | Microsoft Docs

also if you put the headset on first and then open DCS from inside the "home" for WMR you will not have the issue where it is "offset", but if you do just hit recenter and it will all work out

I have tried using old drivers on my 2080 TI and for sure it's worse. I had so many issues with games like Squadrons and they ran way worse than before. So I would recommend stick to the latest drivers. But depends on what games I guess. Half life Alyx runs like a charm for me yet something like Squadrons just runs like crap (40 fps with lots of dropped frames) shareit get-vidmateapk.com

I do the same for my Vive Cosmos Elite... the improvement is awesome!
