ssjrocks Posted December 31, 2020 Posted December 31, 2020 why are ships sooo hard to kill... im not claiming to be an expert ... but when i drop 8000lbs of jdam on a boat... and he still has 75% hp... does not seem right attached a screengrab to demonstrate the boat... i dropped 4 gbu 38's onto it... then rearmed and dropped 4x gbu 31's on it and the below is its hp after all that
Flappie Posted December 31, 2020 Posted December 31, 2020 ED has acknowledged the issue with ships. Hopefully, ships will be granted the new damage model someday. ---
Shadow KT Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 Well... ships are hard to sink... even if 75% gets engulfed in flames and burns for hours... ship will not sink. On the other hand, it will be disabled and rendered useless. You can disable units in DCS, if you inflict enough damage, for example if you do 50% damage to a radar, it won't work anymore. I do agree that this damage has to be tweaked for ships. 'Shadow' Everybody gotta be offended and take it personally now-a-days
Northstar98 Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 With ships sinking, it's really a matter of where and what. On one hand you can have small, 1500 tonne frigates be completely razed by 3 Harpoons, 4 AGM-123s (essentially rocket boosted GBU-12s) and a pair of Rockeyes and not sink for hours; and on the other hand you can have a destroyer with >3x the displacement capsize and sink after 15 minutes after taking 2 Mk83 equivalent bombs (+1 unexploded). Ships really need a vastly overhauled damage model, to the tune of what the WWII aircraft have (component level + X-Ray). As for ships sinking, it could be made more realistic by simulating compartments (even if approximated) and then have flooding simulated to some degree (i.e something like the ships in SH4/Cold Waters). It's also relevant for torpedoes now that they're a thing now (at the moment it takes like 5 G7a T1s to destroy the LST Mk.II). Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. Terrains I own: South Atlantic, Syria, The Channel, SoH/PG, Marianas. System: GIGABYTE B650 AORUS ELITE AX, AMD Ryzen 5 7600, Corsair Vengeance DDR5-5200 32 GB, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070S FE, Western Digital Black SN850X 1 TB (DCS dedicated) & 2 TB NVMe SSDs, Corsair RM850X 850 W, NZXT H7 Flow, MSI G274CV. ssjrocks Posted January 6, 2021 Author Posted January 6, 2021 (edited) im not even talking about damage models here... i see it as when a bomb hits a ship right now it just does x damage.... thats fine for an aircraft sim ... i dont neccesarily need certain parts of the ship to have x effects from a bomb drop... im just saying ... clearly when u drop ord on a boat it damages it a set amount...im saying why is the bar set so high with how much damage gets done(however thats worked out) eg, a little destroyer having 8000lbs of jdams slam midship does sweet fa .... from what i saw... the sim currently requires like 60000lbs of ordinance to kill this boat, however this is calculated should be able to be adjusted with a couple of values if its worked out on such a simple level. edit im not saying redesign the whole system ... just adjust the ship hitpoints to a more realistic value, cos from what ive experienced since i noticed this ... is that ships are kinda invulnerable right now Edited January 6, 2021 by ssjrocks
