OnionMan Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Hi, How do I install the game on another drive? By default it goes to C: and there is no prompt to choose the installation location. Please I'm not looking to move the installed files elsewhere. Thanks
Rudel_chw Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 (edited) Run the installer .. when you arrive to this step, type the path where you want DCS to install, or use the Browse button: Edited February 6, 2021 by Rudel_chw For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB

There is another option if you want to try it. - Download the DCS installer somewhere on your disk. - Open a Command Prompt with admin rights - Change path to where you placed the installer - Execute the command dcs_world_web /DIR="path where you want to install" Like this: 1 For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB
baldeagle611 Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 Hi all. This is something I'm going to have to do since there's less than 100GB left on my HD. So a few questions: Is it as simple as buying an external SSD, plugging it in, then following the instructions in the previous posts above? Do you need to prepare the drive in any way, other than making sure it's formatted for Windows? Do you need to put assigns or anything like that in there to make it work? Would a Thunderbolt 3, 1TB type be sufficient? Any help greatly appreciated!

Hi, The instructions above are for a NEW install ... if you already have DCS, you will only need to move the /Program Files/Eagle Dynamics/ folder from one drive to the other and update the windows shortcut that you use to run DCS (unless you are a Steam user, in which case the move has to be done within Steam). Also, if possible, prefer an internal disk over an external unit, as the latter are usually limited by the bandwidth of the port you attach them. 1 hour ago, baldeagle611 said: Would a Thunderbolt 3, 1TB type be sufficient? Yes, but make sure that your PC does have a Thunderbolt 3 interface .. most don't have one. If you are running out of room on your C drive then moving it is what you need to do. 3 hours ago, Rudel_chw said: The instructions above are for a NEW install ... if you already have DCS, you will only need to move the /Program Files/Eagle Dynamics/ folder from one drive to the other and update the windows shortcut that you use to run DCS (unless you are a Steam user, in which case the move has to be done within Steam). ^THIS^ Simply copy (Not Cut) and paste the entire DCS World folder to the new drive. Do not try to move the C/Users/your name/saved games folder. Just the main game folder in C/Program files. The easy way to change the launcher is to open DCS World/bin, right click on DCS.exe and send to desktop. After you are done, go back to C/Program files and delete to original folder. You should now have over 100Gb of free space on your HD. GL&HF Edited February 12, 2021 by rayrayblues SLAVA UKRAINI MoBo - ASUS 990FX R2 Sabertooth, CPU - AMD FX 9590 @4.7Gb. I did not have any prompt asking for the installation location. It just bailed out because my C was full. Nothing I could do. I wanted to avoid getting the answer ''Just move the installed files somewhere else''. Edited February 13, 2021 by OnionMan

Make sure your new drive has a drive letter. You can do that in windows disc management. Then just direct the installer to go there. Let me know how you do. Have you tried to repair the present install? Edited February 13, 2021 by rayrayblues SLAVA UKRAINI MoBo - ASUS 990FX R2 Sabertooth, CPU - AMD FX 9590 @4.7Gb. baldeagle611 Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 Sorry I didn't make that clear. I have DCS 1.5.8 at the moment. There isn't enough room to upgrade to 2.XX. So i want to start from scratch and install it on an external volume. That sound like the best way to go at the moment. I may be wrong (and probably am). It looks like there isn't a Thunderbolt 3 interface, so it will have to be USB 3.1
