richiej Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 New to this, haven't done a combat flight sim since the days of Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator. I downloaded the free starter sim with 2 planes. I next want to get the Supercarrier. Does the Supercarrier come with any flyable planes, and if not, what would be a good one or two to start with. Thanks. 1
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted February 11, 2021 ED Team Posted February 11, 2021 Hi, welcome to DCS, it would be best to get the F/A-18C or the F-14 to get the most out of the supercarrier, both are great aircraft with deep systems and learning. richiej Posted February 11, 2021 Author Posted February 11, 2021 Thanks Bignewy, That F-14 is going to be hard to resist. But here's another question...will the SU-25T that came with the 2.5 free starter sim work with the Supercarrier? 1
Lange_666 Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 Euhm, the SU-25T is not a carrier aircraft, it has a drag chute for extra braking but no hook to grab a arresting wire. It also has no launchbar to be attached to the catapult shuttle (Russian aircraft use a ski jump carrier and even then, the SU-25T is not a carrier aircraft). But if you really want, it's a sim so you can try and take-off land on it, nobody will stop you. Cornflex Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 Hi richiej, welcome to DCS! If you want to start with the supercarrier module I would recommend the F/A-18 to start with. It is one of the best DCS aircraft you can buy and the offered content is amazing. You can choose from a variety of available campaigns and missions. It is easier to learn than the F-14 (which is a suberb simulation btw). Regards and have fun! richiej Posted February 12, 2021 Author Posted February 12, 2021 Thank you sir, I'll probably get the F/A-18 to try it out. When I run the base sim, which I got here at DCS, Steam pops up a window to setup the VR also. I'll buy the Supercarrier and F/A 18 here, but I hope Steam doesn't confuse it. I don't understand why a Windows sim wouldn't work at both sites. I setup and run MSFS 2020 and the VR at Steam....maybe it's much ado about nothing. I want to be sure before I buy though. Thanks
Lange_666 Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 (edited) Steam pops up because you have a VR headset connected (which is setup for SteamVR already) and DCS is a VR capable game. Steam DCS and SteamVR are 2 different things, no worries. If you have a headset which uses SteamVR, it will work on a non Steam DCS. richiej Posted February 12, 2021 Author Posted February 12, 2021 Thank you Lange, that clears that issue up.

Kuznetsov, unfortunately, is not so detailed and lack the interactive crew. Su-33 is great for entry level flying with professional flight model but simplified avionics and operation but lacks clickable cockpit.
