The article is written by a russian spotter, he mostly describes the way he has managed to take the pictures in a secret test facility and what maneuvers (funnel) the helicopter has been performing. It says nothing about the purpose of the test flight. What I see though are the two fairings on the wingtips housing some new antennas or equipement. Also, noticeable is the lack of any targeting complex in the nose.

"See, to me that's a stupid instrument. It tells what your angle of attack is. If you don't know you shouldn't be flying." - Chuck Yeager, from the back seat of F-15D at age 89.

Strange that the Ka-52 shown lacks the roof mounted ball turret and the periscope mount beneath the pilot. Also missing was the mast mounted radar.

From memory the MMW radar for scanning for ground targets was to be in the nose with a 70-80 degree field of view, while the much smaller antenna above the main rotor head was the CM wave radar with 360 degrees FOV.

I wonder if they are going to perhaps combine the Ball turret with the optics with the CM wave radar perhaps?

Or maybe they have the ball turret for the optics and just haven't bothered fitting them for what is only a flight test to test the aircraft.

BTW thanks for the vids and the pics.

Wow! On the 2nd picture an 9M120 Ataka-V SACLOS radio beam riding anti-tank missiles can be seen under Ka-52 outer pylon.

The prduction of the Ka-52 started on 29th of October in Arsenyev. There are plans to sell 10-15 Ka-52 to customers outside Russia per year. The factory expect to build and deliver up to 30 Ka-52 until 2012.

If the trials with the Russian Airforce will go well, they will probably order 12 Ka-52`s.

A Navy version of the Ka-52 is in developement.

Yep. As far as I know the Ataka will became the major Russian anti-tank missile system to be used on Mi-28N, Mi-24PN/WM & Ka-52 gunships.

In addition, the further development & production of the 9K121 Vikhr-M laser-beam riding anti-tank missile system has been cancelled.
